CNN poll shows tight Obama-McCain race and tepid response to Palin pick

A new CNN national poll SHOWS a virtual dead heat in the presidential race (although state-by-state surveys indicate a SIZABLE lead for Barack Obama in terms of electoral votes) and middling acceptance of Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate.
Half of all respondents in the CNN poll say Palin is not qualified to assume the presidency if that becomes necessary.

Half of all those polled were probably Democrats, what else would one expect from CNN

I agree with Bob. CNN hasn’t talked to the right people!

Bob Ham and Leatherneck! There’s a pair to draw to! You gentleman seem not to understand that CNN does not conduct its own polls. None of the networks or major newspapers conduct their own polls. They hire reputable firms to do the work. Even Fox News does it that way, and the results Fox gets rarely are at wide variance from the other polls. I can’t believe that neither of you knew that. On second thought, yes I can.
By the way, Bob, every major poll, even the ones commissioned by Fox, shows that considerably more Americans identify themselves as Democrats than as Republicans.
Consider this paragraph, which I was able to pluck from the Internet in a matter of seconds: “With far more Americans identifying themselves as Democrats than Republicans, President Bush’s job rating has hit a new low, according to the latest FOX News poll.”
I guess Fox News just wasn’t talking to the right people, eh?

Wow…..I’m surprised Fox News even released the results of the poll, since it casts such an unfavorable light on our decider-in-chief. Something tells me some flunkie at Fox News is about to get a pink slip from Father Rupert….

Actually, Orlando, that poll is from months ago. The point is that Fox can’t fudge the numbers from the polls it commissions. If the network did that, no reputable polling organization would work for them. Fox polls consistently have shown Bush to be unpopular. They’ve also shown Obama to be ahead of McCain. They would have no credibility at all if they played loosey-goosey with their poll results.
Oh, I also used that quote to demonstrate that even Fox polls concede that far more Americans identify themselves as Democrats than Republicans.

I think the success of Obama’s candidacy is in proving that “Experience” is not a high priority for voters. He broke that barrier and proved that one does not need a lot of governmental experience to be president, which in turn helps Gov. Palin overcome that concern.
Only 2 presidential candidates in modern history have had LESS experience than Barack Obama: Republican Wendell Willkie in 1944 who was a corporate lawyer, and Democrat Alton Parker in 1904 who was a Judge for the New York Court of Appeals.
It is awesome and impressive that someone who is the LEAST experienced Democratic nominee since 1904 can fill a stadium with 85,000 people. It means that voters don’t care that much about experience and that “qualifications” are in the eye of the beholder.
