In its first poll on full presidential tickets, CBS has Obama/Biden up by 8 points over McCain/Palin
September 1st, 2008 at 04:28pm Pat Cunningham
The Democratic ticket of Barack Obama and Joe Biden has taken a 48-40 lead over the Republican team of John McCain and Sarah Palin in the first CBS POLL covering all four nominees.
Tradition suggests that the Republican ticket will close the gap at least a little with the party’s national convention this week.
Still, Obama can take encouragement from this new poll’s finding that more than more than twice the percentage of enthusiastic supporters as McCain has.
Biden leads Palin in favorability ratings, but most poll respondents say they haven’t learned enough about the Republican veep choice to form an opinion.
UPDATE: A new USA Today/Gallup poll released within the hour SHOWS Obama up by seven points.
The survey, which was conducted Saturday and yesterday, has John McCain’s unfavorable rating at its highest level for the year. Also, public confidence in McCain’s ability to handle terrorism has declined dramatically.

God love ya…that
astounding8 point bounce is holding fast. You’re good to go with that until the election!2. Pat Cunningham | September 1st, 2008 at 5:35 pm
Bob: God DOES love me, which he proved by granting my petition to ignore the prayers from Focus on the Family for rain in Denver last Thursday night. I guess we now know whom he DOESN’T love.

These poll numbers are indeed very encouraging for those of us who tend to lean left of center, but we cannot allow ourselves to be complacent with these numbers. The wider the margin, the more difficult it will be for Republican operatives (i.e., Diebold and five Supreme Court justices) to once again steal an election.

The current Rasmussen poll shows that it is basically a tie (3 points, within the margin of error.

SNuss: It’s an apples-and-oranges comparison. The Rasmussen Daily Tracking Poll to which you refer uses rolling 3-day averages. The CBS poll and the USA Today/Gallup poll that I cite above are technically different. It’s a complicated subject involving differences in sampling methods and other stuff. But I checked the internals of the Rasmussen report on the poll you cited, and I found this item: “Data from Rasmussen Markets currently gives Obama a 60.8% chance of winning in November.” But you can keep whistling past the graveyard if it makes you feel better.

Results of a CNN poll indicate the U.S. presidential race is a virtual tie.
The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll released Sunday night had the Democratic Barack Obama-Joe Biden campaign leading the John McCain-Sarah Palin campaign 49 percent to 48 percent.
The survey conducted Friday through Sunday indicated virtually the same results as a CNN poll taken a week earlier with Sens. McCain, R-Ariz., and Obama, D-Ill., tied at 47 percent each.
Or, is this poll wrong, because YOU don’t agree with it’s findings?

As Applesauce likes to remind us, pay no attention to the national polls. Instead focus on the race for electoral votes. As we can see by this Obama/Biden is making hash of McCain/Palin–a 10 pt. hash, down from the recent 45 pt. hash.

That link should be here.

BTW, any comment on this?
Former DNC Chairman Don Fowler (Democratic Superdelegate) said:
“The hurricane’s going to hit New Orleans about the time they start. The timing is — at least it appears now that it’ll be there Monday. That just demonstrates that God’s on our side. [Laughter] Everything’s cool.”

SNuss: I haven’t ignored that CNN poll to which you refer in comment No. 6. In fact, I headlined it in a post earlier today (scroll down to check it out).

Menlo Bob: I could show you a lot of problems with your Rasmussen electoral college projections compared with those of Pollster.com. One problem is that Rasmussen seems to use only its own polls. Pollster uses many polls. One example, Rasmussen puts Ohio in McCain’s electoral column. Pollster rates it a tossup. And the latest poll in Ohio, which was done by Quinnipiac has Obama ahead by 1 point. A few days earlier, the Columbus newspaper’s poll had McCain ahead by 1 point. In other words, the state should be a tossup. But Rasmussen has it in McCain’s column. I’ll stick with Pollster, you can stick with Rasmussen.

The only poll that counts is the Election Day poll. That’s why we all need to vote.

Who cares about Polls. The liberal media at rrstar will always distort the results anyway.
Just like they censor blogs on a daily basis. I quess they want Obama to win at all costs. People like you Pat have no character.” sorry Pat but your employer is editing blogs in your favor”

“The liberal media at rrstar will always distort the results anyway.” Gee, is that the same “liberal media at rrstar” that endorsed George W. Bush, Ronald Reagan, Barry Goldwater, Richard Nixon, etc.? The same “liberal media” that was staunchly Republican all the while I was growing up? Gowader, crawl back in your hole.

gowader: As usual, I have no idea what you’re talking about (and your seemingly random use of quotation marks is no help). What’s this stuff about the editing of blogs in my favor or Obama’s favor or whatever?
16. Milton Waddams | September 2nd, 2008 at 8:58 am
The media is only as liberal as the very conservative corporations that own them.

gowader - You’re all wet. Something I posted just the other day that was very negative towards the GOP ticket was censored. And on what do you rely to claim the RRStar is editing this blog? Has anything you posted been edited?
