Imagine if Obama had been linked to this group
September 2nd, 2008 at 10:31pm Pat Cunningham
Last evening, I quoted ABC News as reporting that Sarah Palin and her husband were members of the quasi-secessionist Alaskan Independence Party in the mid-1990s.
Today, the McCain camp produced records indicating that Palin never officially registered with the state as a member of the AIP, but other records SHOW that her husband, Todd, belonged to the group for most of seven years. And there’s a REPORT that Sarah attended the party’s 1994 convention in her hometown of Wasilla, where she later served as mayor.
There also surfaced today a report on something AIP founder Joe Vogler once SAID:
“The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government…And I won’t be buried under their damn flag.”
That was in 1991, and it would be unfair to hold either of the Palins even remotely accountable for such a statement. Nor is that my intention here.
I just want to pose this question: If it were Barack Obama or his spouse who had been associated with a group whose founder employed such rhetoric, what do you think would be the reaction among right-wing Republicans? What would the Limbaughs and Hannitys and the others have to say? What would even the mainstream media have to say?
I’m guessing it likely would be something akin to their apoplexy over the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.
If Palin doesn’t get roughed up over what Joe Vogler once said before her husband belonged to the group – and she shouldn’t be roughed up over it — don’t forget the treatment Obama likely would get in the same circumstances. The pseudo-patriots of the Republican right would go berserk, and the inflammatory words of Joe Vogler would be repeated over and over.
Who can doubt that? That’s what the smear merchants of the radical right do. That’s what they’re about. Just ask Barack and Michelle Obama — y’know, the couple famous for the terrorist fist jab and for hating America.

Let see…about the same time 22 years ago her husband got a DUI. I think Obama admitted that he was using cocaine about that time. Her husband may or may not have been a part of a group that wanted Alaska to succeed from the Union. Obama\’s good Friend and colleague is an unrepentant terrorist that blew up the Pentagon and a police station and has said he wishes he had done more. And the drive by press is screaming that Palin wasn\’t vetted. Your hypocrisy is stunning Pat.

It doesn’t take much imagination to realize that, if he were associated with that group, the mainstream media would not care. They have already circled the wagons on Obama’s 20 year relationship with Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his Black theology, or his personal and professional relationship with the unrepentant terrorist William Ayers, and his now former campaign adviser with ties to Hamas. It all would be a big yawner.

That’s a noble thing Pat, But with these guys I’m more apt to take a different road.
John Kerry allowed these Swift Boat characters to define him, his life and his
accomplishments. We all know where that led, Thousands of more dead Americans and hundreds of millions in new borrowed debt which imperils this nation.
I’m told now that these Corporate Delights that have ruled the roost for the past eight years have given the store away while these types sat back and counted their donations.
The United States it was said can no longer produce certain missiles vital to its defense without first going to China and asking pretty please, give us these computer chips.
The only nation by the way that has threatened the U.S with nuclear annihilation in the past thirty years.
Now allied and bedfellows with the multinational corporations that own the party of Lincoln.
We also don’t need to “Drudge” up history,
But we also need to keep in mind as Democrats WHO it is and WHAT it is we are dealing with here.
Political Ideologs who will DO or Say damned near anything in order to get what they desire.
Fundies who sincerely believe that they are “Special” in Gods eye’s, Going about Gods work therefore the rules do not apply to them
True believers of a stripe not seen on this planet in many a year. Dangerous, Manipulative, Sociopaths.
There is nothing fair about it, Is there ?

when writer writes to be their sole reader, the truth matters not. But when they work so hard to demean someone, they must work to protect the persons character if the case is not the truth. Honesty in reporting is important, as we have no tools to do the checking. So be truthful, honest, do not demean people. Remember, those who serve in office, have homes, children, friends…..just like the authors.

David -
Please supply us with a little more information about - “Obama\’s good Friend and colleague is an unrepentant terrorist that blew up the Pentagon and a police station and has said he wishes he had done more.” That is very interesting. You ought to get in touch with the McCain campaign. I’ll bet they would be very interested. So what is the name of this ‘friend’?
p.s. Are you out of your mind? Did you ever have one? Double up on the meds, they aren’t working.

Pat-any chance that you could start a thread where the issues of the campaign are actually discussed as opposed to the drivel above?
I might suggest the Employee Free Choice Act which Obama supports and McCain opposes.I know that this presents a danger in actually educating potential voters on the real issues but life is full of risks.
You are welcome.

Mike: Four things; 1) I’m not interested in the subject you raise; 2) I frequently offer open threads where people like you can introduce subjects like the Employee Free Choice Act; and 3) All threads are open to hijacking, as you’ve done with this one; 4) It’s not my mission to address each and every political issue on this humble little blog; I picks ‘em and chooses ‘em as I please.

Mike: Upon cursory examination of the Employee Free Choice Act, I guess I’m for it. I base that primarily on opposition to it by the Chamber of Commerce, which also has been opposed to the Family Time and Workplace Flexibility Act, Fair Minimum Wage Act and even the Family and Medical Leave Act.
9. Mike Carroll | September 3rd, 2008 at 8:39 am
Pat-The Employee Free Choice Act is a sop to organized labor and would have the effect of making the US marketplace less competitive which would drive American jobs overseas. It would also eliminate an employees ability to cast a secret ballot. Exactly what part of that Act would you favor?
BTW, I am a card carrying Teamster.

More of the William Ayers crap? Apparently it doesn’t matter to some of you morons that Obama was only 8 years old when Ayers was in the Weather Underground. Was Sarah Palin involved also? She’s about the same age. Maybe they were BOTH terrorists. For that matter, John McCain is 72. How do we know he was not in the Hitler Youth? He’s old enough.

A Smidge off topic, But:
TEAMSTERS LOCAL #325 does not and never will support the Republican agenda to destroy Labor Rights.
Any Union Members who do or say differently are enjoying the benefits of Union Membership while undermining and betraying their fellow Union Members as well
as the American Labor force as a whole.
The Word of today: Character
Some got it, Some don’t
Go Obama
12. Mike Carroll | September 3rd, 2008 at 12:28 pm
Peter-Please feel free to explain to me how the Employee Free Choice Act is a benefit to either employees (not Union Management) or the American economy as a whole. I’d be delighted with the education.

I’d Love to take ya to school here Mike
But I dont plan on hijacking any more of Pat’s blog than I have already.
You know where I’m at, And where I’m not

it isn’t “may or may not” have been a part of this group.
it is a matter of public record that todd palin was a card carrying member of this group until 2002. after that, his association with them is foggy but before that date are very clear.
and it isn’t aip who “may or may not” want to secede from th eunion… it is their “ultimate goal” to vote on secession from the union as plainly stated on their own website.
these are facts. these are not just allegations made like they are against obama… these are absolutely proven facts that sarah palin knows exactly what this group is all about as alaska is not that big and her husband was a member.. and she still continued to “pal” around with this hate-america extremist group.. her most recent welcoming video for the secessionist convention of this year legitimizes its agenda and their beliefs.
why isn’t she denouncing this group for their hatred of america?
also.. their is some allegations that the founder was “palling” around with iran to back him up at the u.n. im still looking into it.
