Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Images of 9/11 exploited at GOP convention

September 4th, 2008 at 09:24pm Pat Cunningham

The Boston Globe had this to say of the video below, which was shown tonight at the Republican National Convention in St. Paul:

“One of the most enduring taboos in American politics, the airing of graphic images from the September 11 attacks in a partisan context, died today. It was nearly seven years old.”

9/11 tribute or 9/11 exploitation? This is shameless. The Republicans are truly desperate.

    Craig, No disrespect meant.
Bury your head in the sand or deal with it. It happened-just like Pearl Harbor. I see those images all the time.

This video is consistent with the Republican Party’s sense of itself as the Daddy Party, the manly protector of the kiddies and womenfolk — unlike the relatively wimpy Mommy Party, with all of its pseudo-nurturing inclinations. That’s why McCain disdains talking with American adversaries when we should kicking their asses on the slightest pretext. That’s the way Bush did it, remember? He attacked Iraq, even though it had nothing to do with 9/11. And by God, it worked. We haven’t had another 9/11. All hail the Daddy Party!

Sarah Palin was a fund raising machine on Wednesday!

Will be interesting to see if McCain did the same.

    My take on last night:

Cindy McCain, “blah blah blahhhh, squint smile, awkward applause blah blah blahhh, squint smile, awkward applause”

John McCain “POW, POW, POW, POW, POW”

I always think of a mommy as emotional and a daddy as intellectual, yet the Mommy Party appeals to intelligence and the Daddy Party tries to appeal to emotion.

Sauce talks the talk. The ‘Daddy Party’ is a reference to a book written by George Lakoff, a leftist linguist at the University of California–Berkeley and founder of the Rockridge Institute. His thinking is very problematic. This is what attracts the Sauce-man.

Personal note: Having visited with Prof. Lakoff at his home in Berkeley I was able to resist a similar tempation, but I feel his pain.
