Consider the bizarre spectacle of McCain ceremoniously embracing the young man whose only claim to fame is that he knocked up Bristol Palin without benefit of wedlock. In retrospect, however, I don't regret having banned mention of the initial round of baseless rumors last weekend concerning parentage of the Downs Sydrome child. I can hardly be accused of political partisanship in opposing any exploitation of those rumors on this blog. (In the Edwards case, of course, the Enquirer subsequently was vindicated, if that's the word for it.) My virtue remains relatively untarnished and exemplary.
