Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

McCain ad fakes umbrage at Obama’s “lipstick” remark, ignores McCain’s “lipstick” remark

September 10th, 2008 at 11:19am Pat Cunningham

Here’s the ad (without, of course, the full context of Obama’s remarks):

Here’s video of McCain using rhetoric that likens Hillary Clinton to a pig (if you apply the same standard the McCainiacs have adopted regarding Obama’s remarks):

The Far-Left’s reading AND listening comprehension problems never cease to amaze me.
McCain specifically said Hillary’s PLAN was something recycled from 1993, that the Dems had just put some lipstick on it, but that (her PLAN, not her) was still a pig.

I could say Pat’s latest post was a pig, but that doesn’t mean I said PAT is a pig.

  • 2. Pat Cunningham  |  September 10th, 2008 at 1:02 pm

OK, snuss. I agree with your characterization of McCain’s “pig ” remark. He was talking about Hillary’s plan, not about Hillary herself. By that standard, Obama’s remark was just as innocent. He was talking about McCain’s embrace of Bush administration policies. Here’s what he said:

“John McCain says he’s about change, too – except for economic policy, health care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy and Karl Rove-style politics. That’s not change. That’s just calling the same thing something different. You can put lipstick on a pig – it’s still a pig.”

Obama was not talking about Palin herself anymore than McCain was talking about Hillary herself.

  • 3. Uncle Bouncy  |  September 10th, 2008 at 1:23 pm

Come on Pat…Obama is supposed to be the smartest man in the world…the chosen one

If his tin ear couldn’t hear how the joke was being taken by the audience and the media, then he is unfit for public office at any level.

Either he meant it as a slur against Palin…or he’s an idiot who didn’t get his own joke

A real man who made a simple mistake..or even a mistake that could be misinterpreted would have apologized

  • 4. Pat Cunningham  |  September 10th, 2008 at 1:31 pm

Bouncy: You seem not to have noticed the audience laughter at McCain’ use of the word “pig.” Why didn’t McCain apologize like “a real man”? You’ve got a double standard, Bouncy.

  • 5. Peter Gunn  |  September 10th, 2008 at 2:05 pm

    Pat,
    These Right-Wing-Nut Jobs don’t only
    HAVE double standards

    They Live a Double Standards

Ever get a chance to see Captain Swift Boat here express some
of his TRUE feelings about this Nation around the Web ?

If they held themselves, Bush or any other entity with an “R” on his or her chest to the same standards they CLAIM to believe in,

We wouldn’t be having these ignorant discussions about Obama being a Muslim, A Terrorist Appeaser, Flag Pins, American Flags on Planes, Pigs, Race, Sex Ed for Kindergarteners, Teen Pregnancy, Abortion, Homosexuality, Birth Control, FoxNews, Hate Radio, Christianity, Phony Wars,
Bridges to Nowhere, Roads to Nowhere, Celebrities, The Clintons,
Immigration, Welfare, Corporate Welfare (TIFs), Russia, Iran, Syria
North Korea, Earmarks, Patriotism, Free Trade, Fair Trade Etc. Etc. Etc.

Anything and Everything to AVOID the issue of a dismal record of Republican Rule and Rot for the past eight years.

Then their low life bottom feeding scum sucking attempts to foist yet another one of these ideologue hypocrites on the American people for another four years of corruption and lies which serve the ubber rich.

It’s totally disgusting, Not about the Issues and They Themselves AdMit it !

I’ve NO DOUBT in my mind as to who does and who does not love and serve this Nation. They are neither.

End of Rant (Until Next Time)

  • 6. Uncle Bouncy  |  September 10th, 2008 at 2:10 pm

McCain was clearly referring to Hillary’s policy…and not the woman herself

Obama was clearly referring to Palin…and if he wasn’t…he’d be man enough to apologize if it was taken that way.

And if he does that…it goes away

His ego won’t let him…it’s always been the egos of the Democratic candidates, as much as anything else, that has led to their downfall in the last few presidential runs

  • 7. Uncle Bouncy  |  September 10th, 2008 at 2:19 pm

and one last thing on this topic…

Maybe you can find this in one of your fake news feeds…you know where you get all the made up stuff about Sarah Palin that you swear is gospel…

But please look for a statement by Hillary Clinton where she made a lipstick joke

Especially important would be that the joke made national news…was repeated on all the major networks..and was made about a week before McCain made his “pig joke”

Wake me up when you find it

  • 8. Pat Cunningham  |  September 10th, 2008 at 2:22 pm

Bouncy: You’re a hypocrite, and you don’t let the facts get in the way of your prejudices. In the following, Obama mentions only McCain and his embrace of Bush’s policies. There is no mention of Palin:

“John McCain says he’s about change, too – except for economic policy, health care policy, tax policy, education policy, foreign policy and Karl Rove-style politics. That’s not change. That’s just calling the same thing something different. You can put lipstick on a pig – it’s still a pig.”

Are you unable to read with any sense of comprehension, Bouncy?

The sad part in these forum trolls coming over to Applesauce is that they have driven away people who could actually conduct themselves like adults. Don’t hear much from MenloBob lately, I miss him. He didn’t agree too often, but at least he added something of value to the discourse.

  • 10. Q Jordon  |  September 10th, 2008 at 4:54 pm

I have found Menlo Bob on commenting on other blog sites of other newspapers.

He seems to enjoy “The Swamp”.

  • 11. Peter Gunn  |  September 10th, 2008 at 5:07 pm

    “Don’t hear much from MenloBob”

    Don’t Read much then
    Do ya Milton ?

Obviously what you consider good conduct on the part of responders is to
allow Captain Swift Boat and company
free reign to peddle their smear tactics and hate without dissent.

Suggest you go to the Rrstar Forums

For seldom is heard a discouraging word, Where Right-Wing-Nut
ideology Rules, Where Obama is a Muslim Terrorist dead set on educating
our newborn babies in the latest sex positions.

This Topic is good evidence of what you stand for. Obama never said this about Palin. For one thing, Pigs should be offended for being compared to her.

    What a joke
Give Pat Cunningham a little credit

  • 12. Jason C  |  September 10th, 2008 at 10:20 pm

McCain simply hiding under Palin’s skirt. If Obama criticizes him in a folksy manner, it’s attacking a woman, if he tried to attack him in a reserved fashion, he’s being an elitist intellectual. If Obama attacks McCain at all, the GOP claim it’s not about the issues but about personality. Yes, it’s come down to that, explicitly: it’s not about the truth, it’s about who’s the best liar.

It’s crap like that that makes independents like me want to give up and not vote… And that’s exactly what the GOP is hoping will happen. They don’t want the swing voters to go to the polls, they want them to stay home. Why try to win an election with a popular majority when you can steal it with a minority.

As I have mentioned before, Pat, your new butt boil is doing the same here as he did on MyStateline, and the RR-Star forums: fomenting hate, and contributing nothing but discord to the forums.

  • 14. Peter Gunn  |  September 11th, 2008 at 8:55 am

    Captain Swift Boat Sez:

“fomenting hate, and contributing nothing but discord to the forums”

This from the Neo-Con water boy who post never ending hate and smears all over the web.

    A SMALL Run down:

    Far Leftist Liberal (Obama Supporters)
    Obama the Muslim Terrorist
    Obama Hates America
    Obamas Wife Hates America
    Obama is a Socialist
    Obamas gonna take your Guns
Obamas going to raise your Taxes
    Obama likes Abortions
    Obamas a Racist
    Obama is a Marxist
Obama wants to Sexualize your Babies
    etc, etc,etc.etc

And that’s just about Obama !

So Cry Me A River Fruit Loop !

  • 15. Milton Waddams  |  September 11th, 2008 at 9:05 am

Seriously? Did you actually just say what I think you said about me? You are calling me a right-wing nut? Have you ever read one of my posts? I lamented that a regular (Menlo Bob) who generally posts good (as in like an adult) comments albeit wrong ones IMHO, doesn’t participate as much anymore, I assume because some of the nut jobs from the rrstar forums have come over here to Applesauce and tried to hijack it like they did with the forums.

  • 16. Peter Gunn  |  September 11th, 2008 at 12:14 pm

Nice Try There Milt. But ……
First of all, READ what I wrote, Nowhere did I refer to you as a ….

    Wing Nut

What I did do since you seemed so enamored by Menlo’s Posting Style was to simply offer you Menlo x Infinity @ The Rrstar Forums, Which …..

Your (ASSumptions) Aside, since I myself am not a member of that closed society

But if your willing to play along and bathe in the pigsty, Go at it

this lipstick issue demonstrates yet again that McCain\’s strategy for winning is based on personal attacks and distracting people from the main issues… i just hope people aren\’t as gullible as the McCain administration makes them out to be
