The would-be vice president says a U.S. war with Russia is possible if Georgia is invaded again

I hope John McCain or some other grown-up tells Sarah Palin that nuclear superpowers don’t go to war over relatively minor disputes. That way lies madness (to borrow a phrase).
Here’s the STORY.

You call the invasion of Georgia a relatively minor event? How European. Remind me never to form an alliance with you. You’ll have my back, Right?

That’s how libs think–if we commit to treaties we have no intentions to live up to, people will be fooled into thinking we do intend to live up to them.

When I first saw this picture I thought it was Palin’s head exploding from all of the information they had to put in it, but then I remembered she is going to implode, not explode.
She said,”We must be vigilant that a large power doesn’t invade a smaller democratic country.” Good thing they told her to remember to say “democratic” country.
She said if we go to war with Russia and they come across the Bering Straits her and the boys could hold them off at Moose Pass until the boys come home from Irag. In 2013!
Who was holding her cue cards? Karl (the snake) Rove.
After the interview she was heard to say. Glad that’s over and I don’t have to ever do that again.

Mike & Bob: Oh, yeah, Let’s have a nuclear exchange with the Russkies over Georgia. Hell, we didn’t go to war with them over Afghanistan, which was a much bigger deal. And it’s a good thing we didn’t. You guys have seen too many John Wayne movies. I’m not saying that we shouldn’t express displeasure with Russia over things like Georgia. But war? C’mon, cowboys, grow up.

So let’s undo NATO then? Because defending member nations is the objective of the whole thing. (Defending isn’t synonymous with nuclear attack–knucklehead.)

Ever notice how McCain pronounces
Washington ?
He say’s ……
WAR SHINGTON !
Another little insight to the Wing-Nut
code.

Oh by all means, lets “express displeasure”. By God, that will give Russia pause. As I have always suspected, the left just wants to be French.

OK, Mike. So why didn’t we go to war with Russia over this recent invasion of Georgia? Was it because Georgia is not a member of NATO? Well, that’s pretty wimpy. Why do we need some stupid treaty to do what’s just and right? All we did in this recent case was express our displeasure, which no doubt frustrated you something terrible. Boy, Mike, you’re waxing pretty bellicose these days, aren’t you? And also pretty Francophobic, which is quite unbecoming for a guy of your presumed intelligence. That France-bashing stuff is for people who don’t even know where France is, not for people with half a brain or any sense of history.

Peter: Are you old enough to remember when the war hawks of the Vietnam era called it “Viet-NAM,” with the second syllable rhyming with Spam?

I’ve spent a good part of the last 18 years working to reduce U.S. and Russian nuclear threats. When I read comments like #1 and #2 above, it scares me. Those two are clueless. That idiot, Vladimir Putin scares me too. But the Russians have no intention of returning to a totalitarian government. They have tasted freedom and they like it. Besides, it was Georgia that instigated the mess, not Russia. That’s probably why that liberal Dubya didn’t smoke ‘em.

I see Craig has swallowed the Kremlin propaganda bait whole regarding Georgia being the instigator. Any rational examination of what occurred would dictate the opposite.
If Craig has truly been working to reduce the US and Russian nuclear threat, it may be time to clean out those 1950’s fallout shelters.
And BTW Pat, I have been to France. Wonderful architecture, great food and wine. Shame about the people. (OK, that is an old English joke). The French people that I met were perfectly charming. It is their political class (giving a temporary pass to their current President) and their media elite who are the problems.

Pat sez: “So why didn’t we go to war with Russia over this recent invasion of Georgia?”
1: They aren’t NATO members-yet.
2. Unlike a typical knee-jerk Liberal reaction (Like calling for a Security Council resolution to condemn Russia), diplomatic measures were tried first. Of course, Liberals are usiually too “civilized” to go to war, even if it was necessary.

That’s funny, Snuss! Back in the 50’s and 60’s the Republicans always blamed the Democrats for “starting” the wars.
14. snuss | September 16th, 2008 at 12:12 pm
The Democrats weren’t so Far-Left Liberal then. Read some of the speeches by JFK, or HHH, they sound like conservatives, in comparison to today’s Democratic leadership.

snuss: I remember one of Hubert Humphrey’s speeches in which he talked about civil rights. A bunch of Southerners, led by Strom Thurmond, were so appalled that they quit the Democratic Party and eventually joined the Republican Party, where they felt so much more at home. Thurmond, of course, was a big buddy of Trent Lott.
