Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

(This post of a few weeks ago is worth repeating in light of recent developments.)

I don’t know who started it — maybe it was Dan Rather (pictured above in some hurricane or another) — but I’m tired of the self-aggrandizing practice among some TV reporters of standing out in the wind and rain to cover big storms.

Video of debris flying around or of idiots who failed to evacuate belatedly running for cover should suffice to convey the message. But, no. Reporters must earn their stripes by hanging on to lampposts lest the wind blow them all the way to some adjoining TV market.

The Washington Post has a GOOD PIECE on this ridiculous phenomenon.

Mr. Straight Talk SAYS ”nobody can name” a single issue on which he’s flip-flopped.

You Applesaucers of the progressive persuasion should have an easy time with this one. C’mon, go to it.

McCain once dissed anyone who had been a mayor or governor “for a short period of time”

Jamison Foser DOES the honors.

Dick Cavett is still a pretty clever guy

I hadn’t heard anything about the talk-show legend for quite some time, but THIS LITTLE RIFF on presidential politics showed me that he hasn’t lost any of his wit and style.

Charlie Gibson redeemed himself

After Charlie Gibson’s  TERRIBLE PERFORMANCE as a questioner in a Democratic presidential debate this past April, I didn’t figure he’d do well interviewing Sarah Palin this week.

I was wrong. He did just fine.

Todd Gitlin has more to SAY about the matter.
