(This post of a few weeks ago is worth repeating in light of recent developments.)Â
I don’t know who started it — maybe it was Dan Rather (pictured above in some hurricane or another) — but I’m tired of the self-aggrandizing practice among some TV reporters of standing out in the wind and rain to cover big storms.
Video of debris flying around or of idiots who failed to evacuate belatedly running for cover should suffice to convey the message. But, no. Reporters must earn their stripes by hanging on to lampposts lest the wind blow them all the way to some adjoining TV market.
The Washington Post has a GOOD PIECE on this ridiculous phenomenon.

You Applesaucers of the progressive persuasion should have an easy time with this one. C’mon, go to it.

I hadn’t heard anything about the talk-show legend for quite some time, but THIS LITTLE RIFF on presidential politics showed me that he hasn’t lost any of his wit and style.

After Charlie Gibson’s  TERRIBLE PERFORMANCE as a questioner in a Democratic presidential debate this past April, I didn’t figure he’d do well interviewing Sarah Palin this week.
I was wrong. He did just fine.
Todd Gitlin has more to SAY about the matter.Â
