Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don't say you weren't warned. By the way, this blog's name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, "All politics is applesauce."

I don't know him well but I've spent a small amount of time with Todd Gitlin. He seems like a pleasant enough guy and I wish him well. But Todd, like many of the self-anointed intellectuals in this country knows two things well--living in coastal left-wing enclaves, and saying things that soothe the psyche of that narrow clientele. It's highly unlikely that Todd Gitlin is knowledgeable about the effect of Charlie Gibson's interview nor how Sarah Palin is viewed by the common American. He certainly seems out of his intellectual element when he fails to realize that Palin's foreign policy positions are a mirror copy of Barack Obama's.

I see Pat....so Gibson has somehow made a miraculous transformation from buffoon to Pulitzer Prize winner....with the only difference being the candidate in front of him. Makes perfect sense.....Republican - Gibson is a GENIUS! Democrat - BUFFOON!

Here are a couple points to ponder:

A) There are 50 state governors and almost every one of them has more experience than Sarah Palin. She hasn't even completed 24 months yet.

B) Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and George Bush were all governors before becoming president. Does anybody think they were ALL successful?

You might be right ... don't know and don't care until I'm ready to vote November 4. I'm willing to let the debates, etc. show me more. Cool down - I'm not your enemy.

Response to #6: Whatever. And, BTW, most folks are well aware that "Independent" is a code word for closet Republicans who are embarrassed by Bush and reluctant to admit that they were bamboozled into voting for our failure-in-chief not just once, but twice, over the past 8 years.

And, quite honestly, I cannot argue with your assertion that McCain is more experienced than Obama. McCain is definitely more experienced than Obama at being consistently WRONG. And McCain has done so many more FLIP-FLOPS than Obama that it's amazing that he hasn't broken a hip doing so.

And as for your claim that "Palin and Biden are a draw," do you really think that the Vice Presidential debate is even going to be close? I can just hear Sean Hannity screaming "Biden picked on her relentlessly" and "Biden was relentlessly mean."

Rage on someone who cares ... I'm an Independent and proud of it. We call both parties on their shortcomings. I'll add you to my list.

Response to #3: Instead of looking to Joe Biden for "mind-NUMMING goofs," you should instead look in the mirror. Or, better yet, a dictionary. Once you finish weeping on the morning of November 5, you might want to consider taking a refresher course in basic spelling. You Cons are absolutely hilarious these days!

A decent interview ... like every reporter he was looking for his gotcha moment. He found some, but in the end they didn't highlight anything that bothered me. The right comparison that is being missed is Biden's readiness vs. Palin's. After this last year of mind-numming goofs from Biden I think the Dems are happy to have him laying low. McCain takes Obama on experience & confidence and Palin and Biden are a draw. This Independent right now is headed to McCain - Palin. 50 more days.

Mike: Thanks for the catches. Corrections made. You should get a gig as a copy editor. In appreciation, I'm granting you one misguided comment without any snarky rejoinder from me. Enjoy.
