September 16th, 2008 at 12:53pm Pat Cunningham
The LATEST Diageo/Hotline Daily Tracking Poll has Barack Obama leading John McCain by four percentage points in the presidential race.
Perhaps more tellingly, Obama leads McCain by 11 percentage points on the question of who would do a better job handling the economy.
UPDATE: Other tracking polls SHOW a trend toward Obama.

This is why people shouldn’t freak out with polls…they reflect the issues of the day. The poll I’m interested in is the cumulative poll which is taken on November 4. Sure it makes me happy to see Obama take a bump to the positive, but I won’t place too much worry or glee with polls one way or another. It is curious, however, why the conservatives have such a sense of false confidence about victory for Mac. You’d think they’ve received divine inspiration about the results of the election. Maybe they’re suffering from low self esteem after 8 long years of anti-progress and the false bravado just makes them feel better.

Did they ask any relevant questions in the polls. Did the people know about the man in charge of the committee that writes the tax laws in congress…

Would hanging around a known terrorist like Willie Ayers and the Weather Underground be an example of “POOR JUDGEMENT”. Or defending the Democrat organization called Acorn. You know Acorn, the pro dem organization that has the most charges of election fraud ever leveled against an organization. That’s one of the community organizers claims to fame. He really is a born leader. Looks like he’s gonna need their help come November. Chicago really has taught him well..

steelhawk: There are so many things you know so little about (as your comments over the past month have clearly demonstrated), and polling is one of them. And speaking of Bill Ayers, who has never been convicted of a crime, is John McCain still hanging around with and lavishly praising G. Gordon Liddy, who did four years in the slammer for his offenses? You’re probably an admirer of Liddy.

I didn’t say that McCain used poor judgement in trying to influence a savings and loan investigation rather it was the 1991 Senate Ethics Committee report that stated John McCain used “POOR JUDGEMENT”.
Now just because Cindy McCain had invested hundreds of thousands of dollars with her good friends ,the Keatings, doesn’t mean that it affected McCain’s judgement. Gee, I guess we now know why Cindy won’t release her tax information.

Pat-You seem to have some kind of need to misrepresent Bill Ayers. Old Buddy from your Chicago days perhaps? As you well know, not being convicted of a crime is not the same as being innocent of the charges which were brought against him. See Clinton, Bill.
Ayers escaped conviction due to the inadmissibility of evidence that established his guilt.
I know you have always downplayed the association between Obama and Ayers but I find it fascinating at a minimum that it is necessary in Chicago politics that one get the blessing of Ayers and his delightful wife.

Mike: I have no use for Bill Ayers. I only mention him and his lack of a felony record for purposes of comparison with G. Gordon, an ex-con whose been such a big buddy with John McCain. Obama’s connection to Ayers is far more tenuous than McCain’s with Liddy. Obama has denounced Ayers’ activities of 40 years ago. McCain has said he considers Liddy ”an old friend” and admires his “adherence to the principles and philosophies that keep our nation great.” I went into this in detail in this post of several weeks ago: http://blogs.e-rockford.com/applesauce/2008/09/08/the-story-of-the-presidential-candidate-and-the-1970s-political-radical-a-convicted-felon/

Mike,
Since you are big on “hanging around”, can we assume that you were good buddies with Tony ‘Big Tuna’ Accardo and Sam Giancana, since they both lived in Illinois when, I assume, you did as well? How about good ol’ George Ryan? Were you chums with him too? And Big Tuna was never convicted of a crime either. This is just as relevant as your absurd Bill Ayers comment.

Craig-not guily of the associations you outline but my babysitter when I was young became a member of the Charles Manson family. You might want to keep that in mind.
12. Pat Cunningham | September 17th, 2008 at 10:30 am
Mike: You’re kidding about that Manson thing, right? By the way, regarding Craig’s comment, I have had very indirect connections with Bill Ayers and his wife Bernardine Dohrn, and with Tony Accardo and Sam Giancana, and more direct connections with George Ryan (with whom I am personally acquainted). But I’m not going to get into all of that here. If I told you about that stuff, I’d have to arrange your sudden and violent demise.
13. Mike Carroll | September 17th, 2008 at 12:13 pm
Pat-Actually no, I’m not kidding about the Manson thing. Does that help explain a few things about me for you?
14. Pat Cunningham | September 17th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
Not really. You remain inscrutable — as do I. We’re the Inscrutables.
15. Mike Carroll | September 17th, 2008 at 12:35 pm
Pat-think about this. My small hometown produced the Manson connection referenced above, yours truly and the RRS favorite Community Organizer Liberal Du Jour-Stanley Campbell. Square that circle.

Speaking of Stan Campbell, I don’t agree with him on some matters, but he’s the most tireless idealist I’ve ever known. Stan is all heart.
