Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Several polls this week SHOW that the Sarah Palin novelty is beginning to wear off, and the Republican vice-presidential nominee’s popularity is sinking.

A survey released today by Research 2000, a non-partisan firm with one of the best records in the field, puts Palin’s unfavorable rating ahead of her favorables.

It’s no surprise when the conservative editorial board of the Wall Street Journal takes a swipe at Barack Obama, as it did this morning, but it’s big news when the same editorial focuses most of its fire on John McCain.

The editorial says McCain “doesn’t understand what’s happening on Wall Street any better than Barack Obama does.”

The paper goes on to characterize McCain’s scapegoating of Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox as “false and deeply unfair” and “un-Presidential.”

The Journal concludes that McCain “is sounding like a candidate searching for a political foil rather than a genuine solution.”

UPDATE: Whoa! Another right-wing news shop is barking at McCain. Fox News WANTS Mr. Straight Talk to take the voice of one of it reporters out of a certain TV ad.

FactCheck.org says John McCain once again is DISTORTING Barack Obama’s tax plan.

But isn’t that par for the course? McCain also is falsely DECLARING that former Fannie Mae head Franklin Raines is an adviser to Obama “on mortage and housing policy matters.”

The Obama campaign says Raines has never advised the senator “about anything — ever.”

Raines says: “I am not an advisor to Barack Obama, nor have I provided his campaign with advice on housing or economic matters.”

UPDATE: WaPo Fact Checker GIVES McCain two Pinocchios for the Franklin Raines stuff.
