Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

A lesson for John McCain on Illinois politics

The writing in THIS PIECE is a little awkward, but the points about Illinois politics and Barack Obama are valid.

Quote: Mayor Daley who runs his own show in Chicago (and despite a rash of corruption in some of his departments a couple of years ago has turned Chicago into a world class city and has high ratings both in Chicago and the suburbs). End quote.

World Class? I guess that depends on the world in which you live.
Murders: 598, 2.7 times the national average
Robbery: 17,302, 2.73 times the national average
Aggravated Assault: 1.88 times the national average
The total of ALL of Chicago’s violent crime is 2.18 times the national average.

And the so-called “rash” of corruption in Chicago is an internationally known blight on both the city and the State. Oh, some of it may look pretty, but it was largely built by corrupt politicians, corrupt labor leaders, corrupt contractors, and their minions. World class? Not the world I want to live in.

Illinois and Chicago politics are a joke. I am not originally from this state, thank god. You forgot Chicago has the highest sales tax rate in the country. Wow, that is what I call progress. There were more Americans killed between memorial day and now than in Iraq.
