I’m inclined to cut John McCain a little slack on the Keating Five scandal
September 23rd, 2008 at 12:31pm Pat Cunningham
John McCain got himself caught up in the Savings & Loan debacle of the late 1980’s and became known as one of the Keating Five, a reference to five lawmakers who did favors for a corrupt S&L operator.
In light of the current banking scandal, there’s a growing buzz about the Keating Five case. Newsweek’s Jonathan Alter brought it up last night on Keith Olbermann’s program:

My take on McCain’s role in the Keating Five business is that he screwed up and showed poor judgement. But his culpability in the case strikes me as relatively minor.
I’m not going to get into all the particulars in my narrative here. Rather, I ask you to read THIS ARTICLE in its entirety and judge for yourself whether McCain acted like a crook. I don’t think so.

No, he just acted like a friend to a crook. Also the fact that McCain’s wife and father-in-law were investors in Keating projects doesn’t look good either. “Poor Judgement”

Pat-you are going to have your membership in the Kos brigade revoked if you make more comments like that.

He showed his true character
even back then
Once again McCain’s fingerprints are all over another Bank failure or should I say
Bank Failures…..
Captain SwiftBoat, Better known as Bush’s Butt Excrement is using Pats
quote here as an endorsement of McCain’s character in this latest round
of Republican Economic meltdown around the web.
Nice try there Captain

Pat, I agree with you on this. McCain used poor judgement in his associations, but it doesn’t appear there was anything illegal and it wasn’t that big a deal. I feel the same way about Obama’s association with Tony Rezco. Obama has said he used poor judgement in that association.

OK, but if it would have been Obama, Karl Rove would be riding that pony to town!
I also don’t want to hear any more Repubs here doing Obama and guilty by association.

LOOK OUT!
KARL’S RIGHT BEHIND YOU SWAMP RAT!!
And I will say it
Obama is guilty by association…and guilty as h-e-double hockey sticks
let’s review…whatever McCain’s involvement in the Keating 5…he has been one of the biggest reformers in Congress
Obama hasn’t done a single thing to reform Illinois politics
not one
and no, the b.s. they pulled last week doesn’t count
Obama immersed himself in the culture of corruption in Illinois
I know you guys are used to it…but believe me, it doesn’t have to be that way
You CAN take your government back
You CAN have real change and not just slogans
but you WON’T get it by voting for Obama

John the sleaze ball caught up in a Senate ethics committee investigation and labeled “Mr. Poor Judgement” . Even McCain admets it was one of the worst times of his life. Not that he was bought and paid for by Keating but that he was caught.

Speaking of corruption in Illinois. Why haven’t we heard anything fro m Republican gov. Ryan. Oh thats right ,he and Keating have the same taste in gray bar hotels.
Where is Allan Keyes when the Republicans really need him.
What a joke.
