Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

McCain campaign seems NOT to be suspended

The EVIDENCE suggests that there’s lots of campaigning today on John McCain’s behalf.

    Pat. Let’s say you have to suspend this blog to take care of a serious problem (health, family matter, whatever). Shall the rest of the employees at 99 East State St quit publishing because you’ve had to take a few days off to straighten out a problem? You don’t have to answer, we know the answer. But maybe you would like to explain why your so cynical about McCain taking time from his campaign to go to Washington to try to hammer out a resolution that will affect either his or Obama’s presidency? I’ll give McCain credit for his approach. Obama’s approach was “call me if you need me”. Ah yeah…that’s leadership?

    David: Several things:

    1) I don’t work for the Register Star; I’m an independent contractor;

    2) The McCain campaign said yesterday that it would immediately suspend TV advertising; that didn’t happen;

    3) McCain admitted Tuesday that he hadn’t even read Hank Paulson’s three-page bailout proposal. Some leadership!

    4) Obama makes a valid point that presidents have to be able to deal with several matters at one time, which is why there’s no good reason for McCain to skip the debate Friday night.

    This whole thing is just a campaign stunt cooked up by McCain’s people now that Obama is opening a lead in the polls.

    Read what conservative colunist George Will says of McCain’s “childish” handling of the financial crisis:

    Pat: Harry Reid even ask McCain to come there to get this done.

    But I know you will not acknowledge any facts. I like George Will but I do not always agree with him. He writes an editorial, does not make it fact.

    If the Ads were already cued by the network or ads by pacs, we don’t know all the facts.

    Pat, you even said yourself this was monumental crisis, so what is more important, a debate or economic future of the U.S.?

    I would call this a campaign stunt if not for the fact this is McCain’s MO.

    Maybe Obama thought, he could continue blaming the republicans if he ignored it.

    One more this, I know you don’t like facts because they injure your opinions but I love this quote by Clinton a couple of days ago.

    CHRIS CUOMO, ABC NEWS: A little surprising for you to hear the Democrats saying, “This came out of nowhere, this is all about the Republicans. We had nothing to do with this.” Nancy Pelosi saying it. She signed the ‘99 Gramm Bill. She knew what was going on with the SEC. They’re all sophisticated people. Is that playing politics in this situation?

    BILL CLINTON: Well, maybe everybody does that a little bit. I think the responsibility the Democrats have may rest more in resisting any efforts by Republicans in the Congress or by me when I was President to put some standards and tighten up a little on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
