Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

The U.S. House DEFEATED the proposed bailout this afternoon.  Stocks fell sharply on the news.

Another account HERE.

UPDATE: THIS GUY says he knows why the bailout failed.

The trap door is open! Enjoy the ride!
Don’t blame congress. Blame yourself and your fellow Americans for not writing to your representatives over the last 6 years to make them enforce the regulations on the banks.
Democracy will not work if no one participates!

Apathetic citizens is no excuse for the elected representatives of our republic to be derelict in their duty. After all, many of the representatives are motivated by “principles” instead of the desires of their constituency.

Maybe the ninty-five Democrats who voted against it WERE listening to their constituents, as opposed to the political hacks like Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and Barack Obama, who were well paid, in campaign contributions, to maintain the status quo.

Snuss: McCain was for it, too. In fact, he was taking credit for it this morning when he thought it was going to pass. And then he blamed Obama when it failed. He’s a stitch, that McCain guy.

The Dems could have passed it WITHOUT Republican help, if they could have gotten twelve (of 95) of their people on board. (BTW, twelve DEMOCRATS on the BANKING committee voted against it) It is even rumored that Pelosi told some Dems they could vote against the bailout as cover for their campaigns, just like they did with the farce off-shore driiling bill. It is also rather inane politics for Pelosi to blast the Republicans with a partisan diatribe BEFORE the vote was taken.
