Obama surges to big leads in swing states

The latest Quinnipiac polls SHOW Barack Obama building sizable leads in the swing states of Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania.
Says pollster Peter Brown: “It is difficult to find a modern competitive presidential race that has swung so dramatically, so quickly and so sharply this late in the campaign. In the last 20 days, Sen. Barack Obama has gone from seven points down to eight points up in Florida, while widening his leads to eight points in Ohio and 15 points in Pennsylvania.”
UPDATE: There are tons of interesting data to chew on in THIS new national poll from Pew, which shows Obama leading by six percentage points.
UPDATE II: Then there’s the chart below from the latest Diageo/Hotline poll on the question: Which candidate better understands your needs and priorities:
UPDATE III: Time magazine poll also has lots of GOOD NEWS for Obama.

Not a very good day for the GOP here in Central Florida, Pat.
As recently as a few weeks ago, the GOP base here was doing cartwheels over the selection of Sarah Palin and McCain’s four-point lead over Obama in Florida. Some were even starting to make their plans for local McCain/Palin inauguration parties.
Today, on the heels of the release of these polls, the wingnuts are in full panic mode. Here’s a sampling of some comments I’ve heard so far today on local right-wing radio:
“The thought of Osamabama as our next president terrifies me beyond belief. If he is elected, this is no doubt God punishing us for our toleration of homos and those who approve of killing babies. We are doomed.”
“The next time it rains in Florida, those are the tears of Ronald Reagan falling from heaven.”
Further irritating to the GOP faithful in Orlando is the scheduled appearance of former President Clinton at an Obama rally this afternoon on the campus of UCF.
Oh, what a sweet day in the Sunshine State!
