McCain gives up on Michigan

Faced with polls showing Barack Obama building a sizable lead in Michigan, where the economic downturn has hit hard, John McCain is GIVING UP on the state.

Meanwhile, four new tracking polls released today SHOW Obama opening a national lead of as much as 11 percentage points.

UPDATE: Longtime GOP operative Mike Murphy SAYS McCain should also forget about Iowa.

UPDATE II: THIS GUY says McCain’s people figure their candidate’s fate rests on three states.
