Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois:

Body count (In the last six months):

    292 killed (murdered) in Chicago
    221 killed in Iraq .

Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago (a lot of good gun control does).

State pension fund $44 Billion in debt, worst in country.

Cook County ( Chicago ) sales tax 10.25% highest in country.

Chicago school system is one of the worst in country (Rockford isn’t far behind, either).

Our leadership in Illinois are all Democrats (Senators Barack Obama & Dick Durbin, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., Gov. Rod Blogojevich, House leader Mike Madigan, Atty. Gen. Lisa Madigan, Mayor Richard Daley).

Of course they’re all blaming each other, because you can’t blame Republicans if there aren’t any……..

How, exactly, is it that Senator Obama plans to ‘fix’ Washington politics, when he’s doing, and done, so little for his own state?

    Sure, ACORN is going strong………………………….

The murder rate in Arizona last year (7.4 per 100,000 residents) was far higher than in Illinois (5.9 per 100,000 residents). Phoenix is ranked as one of the 10 most dangerous cities in America. Chicago isn’t. Are you going to blame John McCain for the situation in his state? Of course not. Anybody with half a brain understands that it’s ridiculous to blame U.S. senators for all the social pathologies in their states. Virtually every president or presidential candidate has come from states with big problems of one sort or another. Your argument is pathetic, and it ignores the fact that many of the problems you cite also pertained when the Republicans controlled state government in Illinois.

Charlie: Regarding the 10 most dangerous cities in America, these lists vary depending on the source and the methodology, and they change from year to year. The latest list I could find was as follows:

    1-Detroit, MI
    2-Washington, DC
    3-Baltimore, MD
    4-Memphis, TN
    5-Dallas, TX
    6-Philadelphia, PA
    7-Columbus, OH
    8-Nashville, TN
    9-Houston, TX
    10-Phoenix, AZ

Ah, Mr. Cunningham…..Touche’ (on the murder rate)!

The point that I’m getting at, though, is that these are all people with whom Senator Obama is closely tied (with the exemption of Governor Blogojevich from the DNC ( with good reason).

He’s got multitudes more illicit ties through both association with the above mentioned individuals, and many, many more of his own. He’s tried to downplay a lot of extremely radical associates that he now all but claims that he never knew (as do most of his compatriots).

You got me on the murder statistics. I concede than, but, there is more to the story both by his direct and associate connections to some real radicals (and some criminals)…………..

As much as our current congress try to pass blame for our current economic struggles onto “8 years of failed economic policy”, we do know the truth. And it goes farther back than President Bush. A mix of Senator Obama presiding over our country as president and our current congress is a recipe for disaster (not to mention some of the radicals who will be able to garner his backing for their agendas).

He’s got too many bad/denied (although provable) associations with too many radicals and criminals.

I’ll be interested to see where some of our Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac benefactors wind up over the next few years. Don’t forget, Senator Obama is in that bunch, too……………
