Bill Buckley’s son “fatwahed” by conservatives
October 14th, 2008 at 02:03pm Pat Cunningham
Christopher Buckley (above), son of the late William F. Buckley, has RESIGNED under fire from the National Review, the political magazine his father founded.
The younger Buckley has endured an avalanche of ugly response from fellow conservatives for his recent endorsement of Barack Obama’s presidential candidacy.
Nice folks, those right-wingers.

Oh, yeah! Yesterday morning, I was at a stoplight on Colonial Drive at John Young Parkway (one of the busiest intersections here in Orlando) when the “gentleman” in the pickup truck in an adjacent lane was apparently displeased with my “Obama/Biden ‘08″ bumper sticker. Once the light turned green, he shouted “(Expletive) off, you commie-loving socialist (slur for homosexual) !” in my direction and sped away. The GOP
faithful in Florida are such affable folks, aren’t they?
Apparently, I ruined this guy’s Monday morning with the display of my bumper sticker. Right then and there, I considered my day a complete and unquestionable success.

What in the world does \"fatwahed\" mean? Is it a verb? Is it WFB speak for f**ked? I want to know this as I might need to use the word one day. Thanks!

Susan: Here’s the deal on “fatwahed.”:
In a piece different from the one to which I linked regarding the Buckley matter, there’s this line from Buckley: “I have been effectively fatwahed (is that how you spell it?) by the conservative movement…”
He’s pointedly corrupting (making a verb out of a noun) the Arabic word “fatwa,” which refers to a religious opinion on Islamic law. He’s sardonically suggesting that because he endorsed Obama, the conservative movement has done to him what Islamic extremists did to the author Salman Rushdie when he wrote “The Satanic Verses,” which offended some Muslim folks. Rushdie was targeted for death, but he’s still with us. So is Buckley, but his name is mud with rabid rightists.

Like a pack of hungry sharks, now the conservatives are turning on each other. It couldn’t happen to a more deserving group.

What if….George Soros endorsed McCain. I’m sure the libs would throw him a party? A guy writing for a magazine that makes its money from Republicans has left the party…it’s a no brainer. I actually agree with Buckley, Jr. that the party seems to have left the principles, but endorsing a candidate that is completely against the principles makes little sense to me.
