Comments on: Will McCain mention Ayers in final debate? I’m betting he won’t

Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don't say you weren't warned. By the way, this blog's name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, "All politics is applesauce."

I hope McCain opens his big mouth about Bill Ayers. That would give Obama the chance to bring up McCain's relationship with Gen. Singlaub and the Iran-Contra thugs that were operating in violation of U.S. law. McCain gave them money and support in the Senate, so they could go out and murder civilians in their futile attempt to overthrow a sovereign government. Come on Johnny, make our day!

equalityrkfd=:I don't believe McCain has ever funneled money to ACORN through his campaign. The Annenberg thing is just the connector between Obama and Ayers.

You mean the Comprehensive Immigration Reform at Miami Dade College Wolfson Campus?

He was a guest speaker at this (2006) rally co-sponsored by ACORN.

ACORN, for any who don"t know, use various affiliated groups to agitate for "a living wage," for "affordable housing," for "tax justice" and union and environmental goals, as well as against school choice and welfare reform.

ACORN, by the way, was a major contributor to the sub prime meltdown by pushing lenders to make home loans on easy terms, conducting "strikes" against banks so they'd lower credit standards.

Which brings us to Senator Obama, who got his start as a Chicago "community organizer" at ACORN's side.

In 1992 he led voter registration efforts as the director of Project Vote, which included ACORN. Last November, didn't he laude ACORN's leaders for being "smack dab in the middle" of that effort?

Senator Obama also served as a lawyer for ACORN in 1995, in a case against Illinois to increase access to the polls.

During Senator Obama's tenure on the board of Chicago's Woods Fund, The Woods Fund funneled more than $200,000 to ACORN. More recently, Senator Obama's campaign paid $832,000 to an ACORN affiliate.

The campaign initially told the Federal Election Commission this money was for "staging, sound, lighting." It was, however, later admitted the cash was to get out the vote, when the truth finally surfaced.

Senbator Obama's campaign is now (conveniently) distancing itself from ACORN (surprised?), claiming Senator Obama never organized with it, and has nothing to do with illegal voter registration.

My question is; Where is it anything but disingenuous to channel cash into an operation with a history of fraud, and then claim you're shocked to discover reports of fraud?

Senator Obama was happy to associate with ACORN, just as he was happy to associate with "Reverend" Jeremiah Wright and William (Bill) Ayers when it suited his purposes. But now that he's on the brink of the Presidency, he wants to disavow his ties. Seems like people are catching on..................

The Justice Department needs to treat these ACORN fraud reports as something larger than a few local violators, in my book.

Senator Obama needs to tell the American people what he will do about this issue, and then stand behind his promise. Senator McCain needs to call him out onto the floor and punk him into promising the American people that he will open an investigation into the fraud reports, and the Attorney General do his job. Brink everything to the surface.

What ACORN is doing is a systematic subverting of U.S. election law -- on our, the taxpayer's, dollar.

Senator McCain's tie to ACORN and Senator Obama's ties to ACORN are night and day. There is no comparison.

Ayres, Obama, and their Annenberg connection should be explored. I'd also like to see McCain ask Obama to explain what he, Chris Dodd, and Barney Frank did for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, to get such large campaign contributions from them. Even Bill Clinton says the Democrats interfered in Republican reform efforts for those entities. Getting Obama to explain his long-term association with ACORN, and the millions of dollars that traded hands, might also prove interesting.

What Senator McCain needs to do in this debate is put Senator Obama on the spot, and get him to commit, to the American people, that when he takes office, he'll launch, and support the Attorney General on, fraud investigations into ACORN and MAFO (Tax Fraud), as well as other tax-exempt partisan involved establishments.

And, he'll do the same.

Here's an interesting commentary by Eric Zorn of the Tribune. My favorite is the line:
"If Ayers is a terrorist, then McCain is an adulterer and I am a 6th grader. "
