Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

First two scientific polls show Obama the debate winner by wide margins

According to QUICKIE POLLS from CNN and CBS, respectively, viewers of tonight’s third and final presidential debate gave the nod to Barack Obama by margins of more than 25 percentage points.

John McCain’s strategy of raising the Ayers and Acorn diversions seems to have failed.  His favorability rating was down in the post-debate poll while Obama’s was up.

UPDATE: Obama also won among focus groups on Fox News Channel and CNN.

UPDATE II: McCain mentioned Bill Ayers six times, ACORN three times — and the “middle class” not even once.

UPDATE III: Roger Simon SAYS McCain didn’t get the miracle he needed.

Speaking of debates, this must-see video is eerily resonant of the current political situation

According to THIS, the Republican National Committee hasn’t booked any John McCain TV ads in Wisconsin markets for next week.

At this writing, polls show Barack Obama with a double-digit lead over McCain in Wisconsin.

As we await John McCain’s bid for a game-changer in tonight’s presidential debate, let’s ponder the latest scenario analysis (above) from our friends over at FiveThirtyEight.com.

The numbers here derive from 10,000 computer simulations of the presidential election, using current poll figures and some historical data.

Among the projections of greatest interest are that John McCain has less than one chance in 15 of winning the national popular vote and that Barack Obama is better than an even bet to win an electoral landslide (375 or more electoral votes).

Frank James does a NIFTY SMACKDOWN of right-winger Tony Blankley’s silly suspicions about how Barack Obama dealt “himself two royal flushes in a row.”

Lynn  Sweet PUTS THE LIE to the Republican talking point that Barack Obama started his political career at a fundraiser in the home of 1960s radical Bill Ayers (above).
