Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Is it Sarah Palin’s choice?

What about adoption? The baby can be whisked away right at birth. If they caught the perpetrator, and can link him via DNA, give his family the opportunity to raise the child.

There are alternative options. She can’t help having been assaulted. It is a sad scenario, but, it happens. However, where is the child to blame, and to receive the “Death Penalty”.

Even if she decides not to keep it, why euthanize the child? This girl is innocent, and a criminal act was committed against her. But, why should the child pay the price of his/her life because of that?

She could be turning tragedy into victory by having this child, and putting him/her into the hands of adoptive parents who are going to give said baby the life that he/she deserves.

There are plenty of parents-to-be waiting for the opportunity to adopt.

    e4e,
Those are somewhat valid arguments but it should still be her choice. Shouldn’t it?

Boy, you have a great arguement………………………………my upbringing and personal belief sees it as wrong, and I know that is very subjective, as is the topic.

My wife and I had two children, both unexpectedly. We were broke, barely able to feed ourselves, and didn’t know what to do…………………..it was tough. Really tough. We had no idea how we’d make it. But, my kids are now nearly grown, are healthy and happy (a true blessing, as well), and we’ve all survived.

My feeling, and I know it is subjective, is that those nine months will pass quickly (albeit, probably not feel that way at the time), and if they take the baby immediately, at birth, she’ll never see him/her.

She’s providing a humanitarian deed to the child, and adoptive parents.

I know that there is nothing stopping her from ending her own pregnancy, through an event staged as an “accident”.

I know that it is a choice, and our government and laws support that. I disagree with it, but the truth is, even if it were illegal, through our God-given Free Will, it is still a choice (we can choose to obey, or break the law).

So, I do agree with you, in the end, any way you slice it, it is her choice.

Would any of you explain to me why the unborn child is considered any less human, and less deserving of basic human rights, than anyone else?

The problem is that 99% abortions are done convenience reason. This would probably be much less of an issue if the pervasiveness of abortion were less. As an adoptive parent I have a lot mixed emotions on this issue, knowing that my children were more likely to be considered for abortion.

An unborn child is human at the moment of conception. I hate to think of any child aborted. Especially partial-birth.

Even in the case of rape-caused pregnancy, and the mother chooses not to keep the child, that is an adoptable newborn, and there are parents waiting for him/her.
