Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Today’s McCarthyism echoes the original

October 19th, 2008 at 02:58pm Pat Cunningham

The Jed Report has dug up a nifty video from 1954 of the infamous Joe McCarthy denouncing journalist Edward R. Murrow and accusing him of siding with “traitors” and associating with a “terrorist organization.”

Sound familiar?

Funny that you should post this, Pat. Last week, one of the locally-based wingnut radio hosts invoked the name of McCarthy and postulated, using typical right-wing hysteria, that Senator Joe was quite possibly 50 years ahead of his time and that if Obama is elected, we can’t say that we weren’t warned. Then, following a block of commercials for assorted GOP candidates, this host answers the rhetorical question “What will an Obama presidency mean for America?” by playing a series of dialogue snippets from one of those mid-50’s anti-Communism propaganda films that the government produced in conjunction with Jack Webb. For many GOPers, the choo-choo has definitely left the tracks.

I know Pat will say this is crazy but Joe McCarthy was actually somewhat proven to be correct from previously classified documents but this something never heard. Also from Soviet documentation that was released. He definitely went overboard.

I did not say he was exonerated. I don’t know if you know this little fact Craig but the Cold War ended and the Soviet government released a lot of information concerning soviet spying.

Which actually brings us to another point, Obama’s mentor Frank Marshall Davis was a member of CPUSA, which was being funded by the Soviets.

Lets see. “the Soviet Union released a lot of information concerning soviet apying.” So it must be factual. Sounds like we have a Ding Dong commie on board.

Hey charlie (Joseph McCarthy) get it another play on words as in you could be Joe McCarthy or Charlie McCarthy like Rush’s brainless dummy. Now some Republican congresswoman wants to have the media investigate all the members of congress for Un-American activities. The Rebublican party is about to crater folks. See right back to Joe McCarthy where this blog started.

Colin Powell got it right when he said we are all Americans. Questioning the decisions of the warriors like Dick Cheney (5 Deferments) about their reason for going to war doesn’t make us un-american. I suppose that if you trust in Bush and Cheney’s honesty it shouldn’t be much of a leap to trust the Russians.
