Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.” |

She is unethical and a liar, so it doesn’t matter what she says.

Your idiots, it is not like she is saying it is acceptable behavior. If you watch what follows, it is basically a discussion of semantics.

They do fit the profile of a terrorist under the defined term (per USMC, in the late 80’s, early 90’s, anyway) of terrorism, which is unlawful use of violence or the threat of violence to attain goals that are religious, political, or ideological in nature and to induce fear with the intent to coerce or intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of said goals.
In the late 80’s/early 90’s our biggest homeland terrorism threat was an activist group called Greenpeace, and seconded by PETA.
Terrorism as we see today just happened to “everyone else”.
That all changed after 9/11.

Ha Ha Ha Hee Hee Hee ….Oh wait…he’s not joking…
I guess I just didn’t feel too threatened by Greenpeace and PETA during the late ’80s and early ’90s.

Believe me, I thought the same thing. Greenpeace? What were they going to do? Sneak up behind us with a weed, and try to choke us to death? Please…………We ran them off (from picketing military bases) routinely.
But, after we finished laughing, and believe me, we laughed, we were educated on commercial vessel bombings and an ongoing problem with “Tree Spiking” (they planted steel spikes into the base of trees, and when logger chain saws hit said spike, the chain would break and mortally wound/kill the logger). Our view changed from “hippie tree huggers” to violent criminals who purposely intended to maim/kill innocent people in a violent manner to get their message of tolerance and conservatism across.
Same with PETA. At one point, they had bounties on the heads of many different people, from large corporation heads to puppy mill operators. They would sooner kill a human being. I do not in any way condone abuse of animals, puppy mills, etc. But, taking a human life seems too extreme, to me, in that scenario.
Abortion clinic bombers, fall into that same category. Dangerously radical idealists (sociopaths, psychopaths) who are willing to take a life to prove their point. They qualify as terrorists, as their means are “ideological in nature and intended to induce fear with the intent to coerce or intimidate governments or societies in the pursuit of said goals.”
I don’t think that Senator Obama is the right man for the job, right now. Many believe there is a “trail of blood” behind the Clintons (Whitewater, etc.), and we’ve heard some overly far reaching accusations of Barrack Obama, some to the point of rediculous, like he’s plotting to kill his grandma.
Nobody should accuse him of supporting or sponsoring terrorism, and if they did, they’d likely be wrong. Some of his acquaintances are not acquaintances that one in the public eye looking to lead our country should have, but that discretion will, too, come in time. He just needs to clear up the unanswered questions, and answer the American people honestly, good or bad. I know that his camp isn’t thrilled with Joe Biden right now, but, Joe Biden is a good man. I’d say honest, but, I really don’t know that any politicians are……………………But, he is speaking the truth to the American people. This is a guy with a lot of foreign policy and homeland security experience. He’s not saying the things he is with intention of hurting the Obama campaign. He’s just shooting straight, and saying things that we already questioned in the backs of our minds.
As Obama’s judgment matures, and it will, and as his experience grows, which it will, he will be a leader who will be poised to take the Presidency. I don’t say this lightly, either. But he will. I just don’t think that this election, truly, is his time. The economy is a huge concern, but so are many other pieces of the pie.

Ok, when Tom Clancy writes a novel and Hollywood makes the novel into a movie about Greenpeace and PETA maybe then there will be some credibility to your story. Until then I’ll consider those activities as the lunatic fringe of the two organizations rather than consider the organizations to be the “biggest homeland security threat”.
7. echo4charlie | October 24th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
I need to clarify, it was a radical (lunatic) fringe of those organizations, indeed. They were just the crap that rose to the top, and stories of their exploits overshadowed any good that the decent people associated with such groups actually did. Everyone involved with those organizations were not involved with said activity. Just an unfortunate few who got the headlines for their lunatic activity.
They lost their status as Nos 1 and 2 around 1995, if memory serves me correctly, because the thought of a radical militant group of religious martyrs attacking us on our own soil was all but thought improbable to impossible at best.
Although, if you haven’t read it, Tom Clancy wrote a novel called Rainbow Six. It was not, in my opinion, totally realistic, but, realistic enough. It dealt with similar ideologies.

Echo,
You’re off base again. Greenpeace is definitely a pain in the a–, but they don’t “spike” trees. That was Earth First. And the PETA wachos didn’t do anything more involved than spraying a few furs. The real domestic terrorists were McVey and people like the Michigan Militia. They bombed the Murrah Federal Building and killed 165 people, many of them small children. And the KKK with their history of lynchings, murders, etc. And the Aryan Nation who advocated violent overthrow of our government (while waving American flags). And these are all rightwing extremists. Maybe you don’t remember all of this, but I do. Distinctly. And please don’t tell me I don’t know what I’m talking about. I’ve been involved with various aspects of national defense since 1975. Have you?
10. Craig Knauss | October 24th, 2008 at 9:36 pm
Correction: I guess it should have been McVeigh, not McVey. At least I spelled Murrah correctly.

the fact that caribou barbie would NOT condemn bombers of abortion clinics where innocent people died as TERRORISTS shows her preference for ideaolgy and demogoguery over decency. Pro Life my ass….she is a lying, conniving, opportunistic sham with no real values or morals. A thief, too, who hopefully will go to jail for her stealing tax payers money and retroactively changing expense reports. I don’t know about you, but where I work, an employee would be summarily dismissed and have the law enforcement authorities called if he or she cheated the company out of $20,000 in expenses and tried to change the billing form after the fact to cover up the deceit, treachery and thievery.

Charlie -
Well written, but I would prefer Obama’s judgment over McCain’s. McCain has far more experience in national politics, but that doesn’t make up for his errors in judgment. And regarding the economy, which is going to be THE problem for the next president, I’d prefer Obama steering the ship instead of McCain.

Craig,
Yes, I have. The front lines, actually. Feet on foreign soil, in full combat gear. How about you? And you better not be talking from the aspect of sitting in a cubicle, middle-management-style.
14. Echo4Charlie | October 25th, 2008 at 11:53 am
Craig,
I, again, don’t think, but know you are full of crap. I don’t remember you in any USMC briefing that I (as a Marine) was present at where this was highlighted to our unit in 1992, 1993, or 1994. Earth First did it to, but weren’t the first. And, McVey was 1995.
