Obama likely to carry 10 best-educated cities
October 26th, 2008 at 01:34pm Pat Cunningham
According to THIS GUY:
“Brainy cities have low divorce rates, low crime, high job creation, ethnic diversity and creative capitalism…But in the politically suicidal greenhouse that Republicans have constructed for themselves, these cities are not welcome. They are disparaged as nests of latte-sipping weenies, alt-lifestyle types and ‘other’ Americans, somehow inauthentic.” Â

“Brainy cities have low divorce rates, low crime, high job creation, ethnic diversity and creative capitalism…”
What does this say about our city (being Rockford). We have high divorce rate, exceptionally high crime rate (hence my Mossberg 590 Tactical Shotgun, for which I pray to never be forced with the need to use), low job creation, not much diversity, but many ethnicities, and we don’t have any creative capitalism, to speak of……
As far as the article’s description of intelligent cities, we’re doing everything wrong………………..

Wow, are these the same \"smart\" that got us in this terrific economy? Maybe a little less of the people who think they are smart may help.

Pat say: “latte-sipping weenies”
This is hard for me to admit being a closed minded homophobic republican, but sometimes I just love you Pat…

I think that the intelligent part is the causation for all the other positive side effects. Which means with out 13% college degree rate, we’re screwed.

Good point Optimistic 1, but, you forgot Pat’s other favorite accusation: “Racist”.
“This is hard for me to admit being a closed minded, homophobic, RACIST, republican, but sometimes I just love you Pat…”
I’m not saying you are, and very much doubt that you are, but, it seems like Pat always adds that label to republicans……….
Good point, yet again, DingDong…………………….
And, Milton, I don’t disagree with you either. Good point. Look at the rate of college educated people in all of the other countries around the world. Pretty high, yet, we’ve got kids that, now, can’t get loans to go.

In many nations, higher education is government funded. An investment made by society in society.

I think if you look at the text you may notice that the words, “this guy” is for a link. Timothy Egan is who Pat quoted. The article doesn’t say too much about who the 10 cities are. But you can be sure Rockford isn’t one of them. I watched Rockford slide downhill for decades, the result of many years of “me first” government. When the city did get some leaders who tried to better the lives of everyone, it was too late. Now the city is reaping the results. Enjoy!
