Only one day left! Predictions, please
November 3rd, 2008 at 08:19am Pat Cunningham
OK, it’s time for all you Applesaucers across America and around the world to make your predictions on the outcome of the presidential election.
The process is simple: Merely name the candidate you expect to win and guess how many electoral votes he’ll get. Example: McCain, 306. (The minimum is 270, the maximum 538.)
The comments are time-stamped, so I’ll be able to determine which of you was first with the correct answer (or closest to it). The winner will be treated to gushing praise from me and will be granted an honorary degree from the Applesauce Institute of Advanced Political Studies (in the unlikely event that such an institution is ever established).
This post will be bumped back to the top every morning through election day to maximize exposure to the teeming masses wandering aimlessly around the Internet.
This competition is intended solely for amusement purposes. No wagering, please.
POSTSCRIPT: Here’s my prediction: Obama, 353.

I have to say Kaus picked the same states that I was going to use for my numbers. Well done, Kaus.
If you keep thinking like me, you might be accused of being a liberal, which I am not.
The one state I wonder about is Virginia. Is there a chance for Obama?
I think that question has been answered, Whatata think ?
Oh, And Pat.
You didnt give a guestimate last time, How about joining in this time around
just for the fun of it ?

Wow, Peter. That is a huge landslide! No offense, but, I hope your prediction does not come to pass!
I didn’t give a number earlier. I’ll counter Peter. McCain 376, Obama, 111.

OK Pat, I’ll play.
280 to 258-cue Handel’s Messiah for the inauguration.

Obama’s army of young voters think he’s got it wrapped up so they stay in dorms trying to score some beer and to vote for America’s Top Model.
McCain wins.
I step out onto the street wearing my Hillary T-shirt that says “I told you so”.
Oh, how I hope I am wrong!
13. snuss | November 1st, 2008 at 2:21 pm
“It’s selfish to want lower taxes” strikes a nerve with the public, and the Undecideds decide: 275 for McCain, 263 for The Messiah.
14. Kevin | November 1st, 2008 at 4:17 pm
Obama 353 McCain270
15. Kevin | November 1st, 2008 at 4:21 pm
oops!
Obama 353 McCain 185

Obama 367
I am being conservative and giving Indiana, Georgia and Arizona to MCain. Obama’s superior ground game GOTV will give him the toss-up states of Missouri. North Carolina and Florida.
17. Mark | November 2nd, 2008 at 10:59 am
Obama 325, McCain 276
18. barryfan | November 2nd, 2008 at 11:58 am
Muh (or is is duh?) please tell me praytell how can anyone who was for Hillary not be for Obama (other than Race)?

The Kool-Aid will flow and Thomas Jefferson will roll in his grave. The “do nots” will sit by the mail box and wait for the checks they are “entitled” to , sent to them by the entreponours of the nation. (the ones that will say “go whine to Obama” when they don’t get a raise or their jobs are cut) I have already sent empty envelopes back to Rockford charities (supporters of Obama no doubt) and told them to call Obama for help and don’t bite the hand that litterally feeds them next election.
20. barryfan | November 2nd, 2008 at 7:23 pm
yeah, juice, you must be a true American and definitely a “Christian” and it is highly unlikely that your adjusted gross taxable income, after all expenses and deductions exceeds $250000 so even the tax argument puts you on Obama’s side based upon issues but, of course, not on race.
21. Henry | November 2nd, 2008 at 7:56 pm
Juice -
If you did send empty envelopes to Rockford charities you are a petty and mean spirited individual. Do you think the women and children who are living at WAVE care who is elected president? Or the children served by the Childrens Development Center? Screw you and everybody who thinks like you. I’ll bet you probably have never given a dime to charity. Finally, you ought to try spell check sometime. Enjoy Tuesday.
22. Dave Barrett | November 3rd, 2008 at 1:13 pm
oops.
I just noticed that barryfan already has Obama 367. So I will give ND to McCain and predict Obama 364.
23. Robert | November 3rd, 2008 at 3:08 pm
Obama 406
McCain 132
The trend is toward Obama. Pollsters miss uncounted millions of people who only have cell phones.
McCain wins AK, ID, UT, WY, SD, NE, KS, OK, TX, AR, LA, KY, TN, MS, AL, WV, SC.
Obama wins the rest, including my upset special, McCain’s AZ.
One further prediction: Obama will confound the democrats as he governs from the center & assures himself of a second term.
24. Pat Cunningham | November 3rd, 2008 at 3:37 pm
Robert: Good to hear from you. Hope all is well. And thanks for the keen political insights.
25. Milton Waddams | November 3rd, 2008 at 4:57 pm
I’d love to see another centrist President. Clinton comes to mind, as does the senior Bush.

Question: “Muh (or is is duh?) please tell me praytell how can anyone who was for Hillary not be for Obama (other than Race)?”
Answer: If Obama loses, Hillary can say “I told you it should have been me”, and run again in 2012. Otherwise she would have to wait until 2016, when she would be in her in her mid to late sixties.
