Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Here’s my list of McCain’s 10 biggest mistakes

I probably could be persuaded to change the order of the following (except for No. 1), and I might have forgotten something that belongs on this list, but these are the biggest problems off the top of my head:

1. Choosing Sarah Palin as his running mate.

2. Attacking Barack Obama’s patriotism and character.

3. Lying about Obama’s tax plan.

4. Surrounding himself with lobbyists and proteges of Karl Rove.

5. Awkwardly botching the “suspension” of  his campaign to deal with the financial crisis.

6. Failing to convey a central theme of his candidacy.

7. Playing the prisoner-of-war card much too often.

8. Extolling small-town values as superior to those of metropolitan areas.

9. Overplaying the “maverick” image.

10. Pretending to be a guardian against Obama’s “socialism.”

UPDATE: Here’s a REPORT on turmoil in the McCain-Palin camp in the final days.

In other words, being a Republican?

Or should I ammend that to Rovian Republican?

I would add… During the debates looking so angry that steam was about to come out of his ears. That is a frightening personality trait for someone who would negotiate with world leaders.

She didn’t remove corruption, she just got rid of the good ole boys club corruption and replaced it with her own brand.

If McCain had spent more time delivering his message rather than making cheap shots, he would have faired much better with the moderates. Unfortunately, he turned them all off. And Sarah Palin was just a loose cannon, as well as a fake.

Personally, I think the John McCain of 2000 could have won. He had my respect. The John McCain of 2008 was just a bitter old man who was willing to do anything to win. I don’t know how many times I have read or heard that.

Did I read that right…..ROVE IS A WINNER? omgosh
Palin was McCain’s biggest problem, looking into the camera and mocking Obama being a community organizer, lying up until the day before the election about Obama voting to raise taxes 94 times. Not going on Meet The Press or the Sunday morning shows. McCain came across as an angry bitter man. What did we hear the last week the most……FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT……..he was hoping to get the Hillary votes. Didn’t work.

Damn that corrupt Governor Palin! Let’s hear you say Blago is a better Governor and Illnois is a better run state than Alaska and keep a straight face saying it. Why did 300 reporters attack Alaska (and found nothing) and not one reporter investigated Obama or Biden. But this election was not about intelligence, acomplishments, or ideas, it was a racial preference vote. Hey, when is the next welfare $700M stimulus check coming your way, loser??
