Ah, the wonders of FINANCIAL DEREGULATION!
POSTSCRIPT: When you’re done reading the material about Iceland (and be sure you follow all the links), you should check out THIS STUFF about Republican efforts to blame the U.S. financial crisis on Democrats. It’s almost funny.

Pat,
That picture looks more like Greenland. Greenland’s been in the news lately for depletion of it’s icebergs, etc.

Craig: I can vouch for the photo. It’s Iceland, all right. Your comparison with Greenland raises the old question, of course, about why Iceland and Greenland are so-named when the former is green and the latter is icy. Which is not unlike the question of why we drive on parkways and park on driveways. Don’t get me started.

I have been to Greenland and it looks just like this picture. And there is a girl behind every tree, just like they say.

Could Greenland be called Greenland because at one time it was just that, green land?

“Could Greenland be called Greenland because at one time it was just that, green land?” Maybe it was. But not in the last 1000 years or so. The green part was gone long before the Norsemen gave it that name. Having flown over it a number of times, there sure ain’t much green left.
