Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

The Obama-Lincoln comparisons

It’s all the rage these days to compare our 44th president to the 16th, both of whom followed unlikely paths from Illinois to the White House.

HERE’s Newsweek’s take.

Set your Kool-Aid down and read this:

In the famous Lincoln-Douglas Debates in Charleston, Illinois, Lincoln said:

“I am not, nor ever have been in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races. I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with White people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will ever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality.”

(Fourth Debate with Stephen A. Douglas at Charleston, Illinois on September 18, 1858 (Vol. III pp. 145-461))4

The media will tell you the complete opposite, of course.

Juice loves Lincoln’s racism, doesn’t he? And he thinks he’s discovered something that us other students of Lincoln didn’t already know. Juice is a real piece of work.

Marv.Bullard: If you want to comment about Obama-God comparisons, go ahead. But be sure to tell us which God you’re talking about. There are lots of different supreme beings, depending on whom you’re talking to. Even among Christians, there are thousands of different theological points of view.

I’m “a piece of work” Pat? It’s not my opinion; it’s a quote from history.
