Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Obama didn’t win a mandate? Nonsense!

Barack Obama’s popular-vote margin of victory in this year’s presidential election was nearly three times as large as George W. Bush’s in 2004.

Bush claimed a mandate, and none of his fellow Republicans argued otherwise.  Ah, but the GOPers are all claiming now that Obama received no mandate.

They’re wrong, as Jonathan Chait notes HERE.

    Good comment Mike.

The letter written by the gentleman at this link really hits the nail on the head, I don’t care what side of politics you are on. And it really sets the stage for the new president-elect.

Good linked article Juice. Have you noticed the deafening silence from our liberal friends on this site?

  • 4. Juice  |  November 18th, 2008 at 7:59 pm

Yes, they just come up with new “blogs” and bury the old blog so nobody can comment futher. Or they pull your comment off to not expose the truth. Check my post in the Licnoln “endorses” Obama blog. The truth really spilled the Kool-aid on that one.

Juice: I’m not sure exactly what you’re talking about, but there’s nothing preventing you from commenting on any of the posts on this blog, going all the way back to the beginning last January. As for pulling comments off, I’ve only done that a few times here — and only because of offensive language.

Fair enough. They are sometimes hard to locate.

What mandate? Seems that many of those who voted for Obama couldn’t tell you anything about him, thanks to MSM coverups, and partisan attacks on Republicans.
Watch the video, read the poll results:

    http://www.howobamagotelected.com/

    Zogby Poll

    512 Obama Voters 11/13/08-11/15/08 MOE +/- 4.4 points

97.1% High School Graduate or higher, 55% College Graduates

Results to 12 simple Multiple Choice Questions

57.4% could NOT correctly say which party controls congress (50/50 shot just by guessing)

81.8% could NOT correctly say Joe Biden quit a previous campaign because of plagiarism (25% chance by guessing)

82.6% could NOT correctly say that Barack Obama won his first election by getting opponents kicked off the ballot (25% chance by guessing)

88.4% could NOT correctly say that Obama said his policies would likely bankrupt the coal industry and make energy rates skyrocket (25% chance by guessing)

56.1% could NOT correctly say Obama started his political career at the home of two former members of the Weather Underground (25% chance by guessing).

    And yet…..

Only 13.7% failed to identify Sarah Palin as the person on which their party spent $150,000 in clothes

Only 6.2% failed to identify Palin as the one with a pregnant teenage daughter

And 86.9 % thought that Palin said that she could see Russia from her “house,” even though that was Tina Fey who said that!!

Only 2.4% got at least 11 correct.

Only .5% got all of them correct. (And we “gave” one answer that was technically not Palin, but actually Tina Fey)

Do you think a “mandarte” matters? Didn’t LBJ have a mandsate? How about RMN? Biggest landslide ever. Then what happened to them? Does a “mandate” really mean anything at all?

  • 9. Pat Cunningham  |  November 19th, 2008 at 8:39 am

Hey, SNuss: How did the McCain voters do in that stupid poll from which you’ve quoted? Oh, that’s right. They didn’t poll the McCain voters. So much for the worthiness of the effort. But you were certainly impressed, weren’t you? That figures.

  • 10. Craig Knauss  |  November 19th, 2008 at 12:42 pm

Ronald Reagan had a “mandate” also. Or so he claimed. What did it get us?

  • 11. Milton Waddams  |  November 19th, 2008 at 4:31 pm

Perhaps they are saying Obama doesn’t have a mandate because the Supreme Court didn’t appoint him like our last President.

  • 12. Juice  |  November 19th, 2008 at 7:20 pm

Pat, The person that did the poll has offered to ask the same exact questions to 512 McCain voters if someone else pays for his work if the McCain voters turn out to be smarter. Alan Colmes wouldn’t take the bet on TV much less any other liberal. Put your money where your mouth is!

Gees, Daschle in the cabinet? Talk about has-beens. Call this Clinton’s 3rd term. But better than Carter 2 and the less change the better. Shows his lack of experience and confidence. There are a lot of smart people in medical fields, etc. Why pick a politician? Same game as always. But better than radical change.

Obama would have to go a long way to top some of the clowns that Dubya named to his cabinet. I’d rather see a “has been” in there than a “never was”. Colin Powell was one of the few credible Bush appointees. And he left early.

Change, change left in our pockets is the real change that was being peddled. Lets bailout the uaw too. They have had it rough for a long time. Terrible pay, terrible insurance, terrible layoff plans while retooling. Look at Michigan, the poster child for what the uaw can do for you.

  • 16. Juice  |  November 20th, 2008 at 4:17 pm

Obama needs to give the US people assurance he will not convert the country from Capitalism to Socialism. The US doesn’t buy it so far, and thus the market crash. Cows run away when they know the butcher is coming. And what about our congressional “leaders” stiffing the Big 3 and the UAW? It’s their base! What a betrayal.
