The strange, unfounded fear among right-wingers about Democrats and the Fairness Doctrine
November 20th, 2008 at 06:21pm Pat Cunningham
For reasons that only the most talented psychologists could fully explain, the cultural conservatives whose grip on reality is most tenuous are convinced, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that Barack Obama and the rest of those terrible Democrats are going to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine and thereby silence right-wing talk radio.
It’s a silly theory, as we see HERE.

Isn’t it quite ironic that those screaming “Censorship!” over the return of the Fairness Doctrine are the same folks who overtly suggested at the beginning of Bush’s Baghdad Follies that those of us who dared to publicly criticize the Great Decider at a time of war should be tried for treason and subsequently stripped of our citizenship?
I’m definitely left of center, but I LOVE right-wingnut radio. Listening to Rush Limbaugh foam at the mouth on one end of the AM dial while Sean Hannity whines at the other end of the dial provides me with more amusement and entertainment than a complete collection of Monty Python DVDs.
For once, Cons, this Lib is on your side.

You know, there are no two worse to listen to than Rush Limbaugh (I lost respect for him, and never regained it in 1992 when he called a, then 12-year-old, Chelsea Clinton “Ugly” because he hated her parents so.
And, although more conservative than liberal, I wouldn’t last 5 minutes in a conversation with Sean Hannity. That guy is like Bill O’reilly. He just outshouts his interviewee.
These guys won’t go off of the air because they’re “conservative”, it’ll be because they are obnoxious.
As a conservative, I’ll admit you won’t hear this form many right-siders; I’m a huge fan of Al Franken. I’ll miss his political satire terribly. In my opinion, none were better. Bill Maher? He’s just dirty and obnoxious. Al Franken didn’t have to get vile to be funny.

Well said Charlie. We disagree about Bill Maher, though. I can’t wait for Religulous to come out on DVD, since it won’t play here in Rockford…
Speaking of Al Franken, Here’s an interesting link about the ballots that are being challenged by both sides in Minnesota. Allows you to vote on how you would judge them as well. Pretty cool and pretty telling in how much difficulty some people have in following VERY simple directions.

Thanks for the “link” Mr. Waddams.
I agree, Religulous won’t air here, in Rockford. It may have had a chance at Colonial Village, but, I’d be surprised to see that on the Showplace (14,16) roster……….
I’m not sure I can totally pinpoint what I don’t like about Maher…..in specific, because I think some other foul-mouthed comedians are funny…..I don’t know…..he just rubs me wrong, somehow…….
