Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Pundit Bill Kristol, a leading light of the neo-conservative movement, CONSIDERS torturers heroes and wants them honored as such.

Kristol’s a man’s man (even if he supported the Vietnam War while avoiding military service in it).

I am absolutely in favor of making a sleazebag terrorist terrified for his life in order to get information from him or her. They could care less about who they kill, men, women, children, it doesn\’t matter. Anybody that thinks we should treat terrorists like common criminals is a naive imbecile that needs to spend a few weeks in Afghanistan, Israel, now India. Pat, you should be 1st in line to volunteer to go.

I’ve been told that the most effective way of getting FALSE information out of someone is by torturing them. That’s how make you people confess to crimes they didn’t do… or make them admit they are really witches or werewolves.

Wow shaw…you have been “told” something? Does that make it true? I think not.

It doesn’t make it false either. Yes, I was told in some class covering the history of the Inquisition that many people will confess to false crimes under duress. That is why certain confessions are not allowed in court. Steve, Maybe if you took classes people would tell you things that were true.
You can look at this article and see how the New York Times reported on the US using Soviet techniques using false confesions.

“Maybe if you took classes people would tell you things that were true.” Not necessarily shaw, I have 3 degrees in history, and no, I was not always told the truth. For example, that Che Guevara was a nice guy. There are a lot of prof.’s out there with agendas. Do your own research and don’t rely on what some old burn-out told you. I have served in the military and I have seen people questioned in places like Colombia, etc. I have never heard anyone say they were a witch. Once you get out of college maybe you can shake the cobwebs out of your head. I can also point to a myriad of articles that say interrogation saved many lives. Do you care about the rights of a terrorist over the lives of innocent people? Good luck with that world view. That is why Hitler was able to take power. By the Neville Chamberlains of the world.

I care about truthful information and what wrorks in getting it. Torture is not a method of getting truthful information. It is a way of getting statements the torturers want to hear.

    Steve,
You’re killing me with your stuff! Too funny. “3 dgrees in history” I laughed at that one until I got tears in my eyes. Like a ball joint has 3 dgress of freedom, Steve has 3 degrees in history. Too funny.

“I have never heard anyone say they were a witch,” And in the Middle Ages no one confessed under torture to being a member of Al Queda or a terrorist! Comedy gold! I love it.
