The Quote of the Year

In THIS INTERVIEW with Charles Gibson of ABC, President Bush said:
“I’m sure some people voted for Barack Obama because of me.”
What a keen observer of the political scene.
Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.” |

It’s an article of faith among conservatives that The New York Times, the nation’s most influential newspaper, shamelessly slanted its coverage of the presidential campaign in favor of Barack Obama.
To hear some people tell it, the Times had nary a word to say about Obama’s connections with Tony Rezko, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, Bill Ayers or Rashid Kalidi, nor anything to say about his white ancestors having owned slaves, potential conflicts of interest regarding his campaign contributors, his “present” votes in the Illinois Senate, his use of illegal drugs as a young man, his “bitterness” speech about small-towners, the favorable comments about him from a leader of the Palestinian militant group Hamas, his failure on some occasions to wear a flag lapel pin, his breaking of an earlier pledge to take public campaign funds, his views on abortion and gun control, his cancellation of a planned visit to wounded troops at a hospital in Germany, or reports that a Kenyan relative of his was living in the United States illegally.
But, if the right-wing critics had actually bothered reading the Times, they would have found stories on all these matters and more.
HERE’s a list of 92 articles from the Times, including more than a few that Barack Obama probably would rather have not seen in print anywhere.

George W. Bush is the first president to hold a masters degree in business administration, but that hasn’t done him — or us — much good, as we see HERE.

It says HERE that some high-ranking military officials expect the incoming Obama administration to bring a “renewed respect for the chain of command and greater realism about U.S. military goals and capabilities, which many found lacking during the Bush years.”

The Rev. Joseph Illo (above), of Modesto, Calif., has ADMONISHED parishioners who voted for Barack Obama to confess that “sin” before receiving communion, lest they commit a sacrilege.
Exit polls showed that Democrat Obama was supported by 54 percent of Catholic voters over Republican John McCain.
