Pour yourself a hot toddy, gather the family around theĀ hearth and share with them this HEART-WARMING TALE of the man who first warned us about the War on Christmas.

I was in a store the other day, and saw “Happy Holidays” and “Happy Hanukkah” gift cards. Essentially they carried every imaginable phrase, except Merry Christmas.
Think of this, though. Most historians agree on evidence that Jesus was born late summer/early fall (possibly September-ish). Winter Solstice, however, was originally observed by various “pagan” religions on December 25th (through Europe), and the ancient Papacy moved/mandated that day (Winter Solstice) to December 21st, instead.
So, is it really Christ’s “birthday”?
So, shouldn’t we really celebrate Christmas in September? Would we call it Christmas then, though?
Who knows?
If we are celebrating His birthday, would he call us to fight with others?
I understand that it is a traditional American holiday, and I think it is silly to reduce recognition of such a holiday, to be honest.
Celebrate whatever you want. Call it whatever you want.
I do.

I am pretty sure that the Winter Solstice wasn’t moved by the Papacy. They established the “birthday” of Jesus as an attempt to downplay the pagan Solstice celebrations. While I don’t think there is a “war on Christmas”, I don’t understand what the big deal is about saying Merry Christmas in stores. I am not a big fan of political correctness though…

This whole discussion is a joke anyway. I’m nearly 40 and was raised in a Presbyterian church and still am an active member of my church. However, since I was a kid, Christmas has been about shopping, buying, gifts, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Doorbusters and propping up the economy. Any thought that there’s a secular “War on Christmas” or that this is PC gone amok misses entirely what the Christmas season has become and that’s about buying as much worthless crap as possible.
I think it’s important to recognize other religions and their traditions. However, the real meaning of “Christmas” is long gone and probably won’t ever come back. And, we have no one but ourselves to blame.
