Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.” |

Just thought I remind Pat of this previous comments.
Jesse Jackson Jr. SAYS he’s innocent of any wrongdoing in the Blagogate case, and I believe him.
No, it isn’t because I’m a big fan of Jackson. Frankly, I don’t know a whole lot about him.
Rather, I think Jackson’s smart enough to recognize that lying about the matter would be of no avail when we all know that the feds have recordings that could refute any falsehoods regarding his conversations with Blagojevich.
He knows that prosecutors are fully aware of what went down, so why would he lie about it? That would only make the situation far worse for him.
Jackson also says the feds have told him that “I am not a target of this investigation, and that I am not accused of any misconduct.”
Again, he would be stupid to say such things if they weren’t true. Prosecutors aren’t going to sit still for some politician publicly misrepresenting what they’ve told him. Especially not in a case like this.

I wonder if JJ Jr. might go down with this as well. If so, will that implicate JJ Sr? Also, things are starting to point at Rahm Emanuel as well.
This could be an embarrassing scandal for president-elect Obama. When will the people of Illinois start looking for their candidates (whether they are a R or a D) from somewhere OTHER than Chicago? Illinois has a long history of corruption, but Chicago’s is worse yet.

I would like to see Jim Edgar get back into politics.

Notice that it states “pals of Jesse Jackson, Jr.”, though. Did he know? Probably, but, he never got his own hands dirty, and kept an “umbrella” of plausible denial of knowledge for himself.
The apple obviously doesn’t fall too far from the tree in the Jackson family.

DingDong: What’s your point in your comment No. 1? I have no reason yet to retreat from the stuff you’ve quoted.

e4c said “Notice that it states “pals of Jesse Jackson, Jr.”, though. Did he know? Probably, but, he never got his own hands dirty, and kept an “umbrella” of plausible denial of knowledge for himself.”
That’s because JJ Jr knows how to do things “The Chicago Way”, if Blago had learned something from his father in law, he wouldn’t be in this mess.

In my last post I had “” at the end, but the angle brackets made it not show, so just in case, [removes tongue from cheek]

Pat: Just think it interesting how your giving this guy a pass when I believe there is more evidence to the contrary. To think about it, Jesse’s pop perfected the payoff.

I think you’re correct, Mr. Waddams.
I also agree w/ DingDong. Jackson Sr. has perfected methodology for every underhanded deal that can be made. He knows how not to get caught.
What I take from Pat’s comment is that they’ll never tie anything directly to JJ Jr. They’ll never have anything more than circumstantial evidence, no matter what his actual involvement. So, he’ll never be formally charged with anything. I think, anyway……

Chicago politics is more powerful than most countries. It’s funny how Blago has been made into this huge, derranged psycho and now Chicago has somehow been cleansed (meanwhile the cockroaches are heading for cover like Raum). Time to reassign the 300 reporters still digging in Sarah’s back yard, plant them in Chicago, and find out all the details. And yes, JJJr is dirty too.

The only thing different about Blago is that he was taped. Just take a look at what happened to the Dem in the runoff and the Rep in the General against Obama…unbelievable!
