Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

It looks as though America Supports You took a page directly from El Rushbo’s playbook in 2005.

From John Amato’s “Crooks and Liars” blog, circa November 2005:

Talk about lowering the bar. Have you seen this “Adopt a Soldier” program Rush has started? You would figure that a program targeted for our troops would actually help them in some small way. Maybe the money would go to some equipment, supplies or anything the troops could actually use over in Iraq that will help them survive. Here’s what they get for 49.95:

“Support our men and women in uniform by giving a subscription to Rush 24/7 and the Limbaugh Letter to a member of the US Armed Forces. He or she will receive unfettered access to Rush 24/7 online as well as every big, colorful issue of The Limbaugh Letter ”

Rush is charging 49.95 for a solider to receive his radio broadcast and newsletter. Have you ever seen a creepier operation?

I’m absolutely shocked that a program set up by Donald Rumsfled might have mishandled its funding.

    It makes this:

    seem even more humorous.
I’m sure there’s tons of folks wishing Dastardly Don was still in charge.

How about John Murtha convicting members of our military of murder, before trials even began? (None were convicted)

Or John Kerry accusing them of acting like terrorists?

Or Dick Durbin equating them with Nazis?

Limbaugh gives them positive support, from both his broadcasts, and newsletters, which improves their morale. He doesn’t charge the soldiers ANYTHING!

    Rush 24/7 Adopt-A-Soldier Program

Welcome to the Rush 24/7 Adopt-A-Soldier Program, where service members can register to receive a Rush 24/7 membership from a pool DONATED by Dittoheads.

Sponsors may adopt as many soldiers as they would like at a reduced price. Each adopted soldier will receive a complimentary, one year subscription to Rush 24/7
    and the Limbaugh Letter.

Yeah, Rush really hates the military, as the following article shows:

    Advocate of the Military

Now, anybody who has spent any time listening to Rush knew this was false. There is no greater advocate — on or off the air — for the military and its mission. And unlike Reid and most of the other anti-war Democrats, over the years Rush has quietly made significant contributions to the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation. But it didn’t matter. Reid ran with the lie, as did many of his fellow Democrats and media friends, believing they could damage Rush’s reputation, drive a wedge between Rush and his audience and advance the Democrats’ political agenda. To my knowledge, never before has a Senate leader attempted to use the force of government against a private citizen in this way. And rather than condemn Reid, the Big Media cheered him on by repeating his lies.

So, the stakes were extremely high. Would a powerful Democratic politician and Clinton front group be able to cripple Rush and damage the conservative cause through intimidation and dishonest tactics? Well, they don’t know Rush like we do. They picked a fight with the wrong guy.

Rush confronted, mocked and exposed Reid and Media Matters as dissembling bullies. And in an act of absolute brilliance, he put the Reid letter — signed by the likes of Hillary Clinton (N.Y.), John Kerry (Mass.), Teddy Kennedy (Mass.) and other anti-war senators — up for auction on eBay, not only pledging that all proceeds would go to his beloved Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation, but announcing that he’d match the winning bid. The auction brought $2.1 million, and when combined with Rush’s matching donation, the Reid letter generated a whopping $4.2 million for the foundation! But Rush wasn’t finished. He challenged Reid to raise or contribute an equal amount for the troops. We’re all still waiting.

Billybeer: Your comment No. 5 (above) is the 8,000th posted here since the inception of Applesauce last January 7. Congratulations. As a token of our appreciation, you’ll receive a beautiful leather-bound volume of Larry Craig’s autobiography, “Men’s Room Memories,” in the unlikely event he ever writes it. (NOTE: This offer is not valid if Craig writes a memoir under any other title.)

Pat, I will only accept said prize if it zooms above #6,312,624 on the Amazon.com best sellers list.(I do own a copy of Big Town) By the way, what does Larry Craig have to do with Rush raising so much money for the troops?

Quote: “By the way, what does Larry Craig have to do with Rush raising so much money for the troops?”
    Answer: Absolutely nothing.

It is just a ploy to change the subject, since Pat is unable to dispute the FACTS. Typical Far-Left diversionary tactics.

Maybe the heading for this post should be changed to:

“Support-the-troops scam expose’, exposed as a Leftist fraud.”
