Will Burris be seated? Yes? No? Why? Why not?

C’mon, you smarty-pantses. Tell me what’s going to happen and why.
Frankly, I ain’t too sure. But the whole thing is kind of fun.

Both “Dingy Harry” Reid and D!ck (our troops act like Nazis, Soviets, Pol Pot) Durbin said they won’t accept him. Would they lie to us?
Better choice: Peter Fitzgerald (or, Don Wade)

You gotta give Blago credit for taking the offense and keeping everyone guessing. Burris seems like a straight arrow and able to do the job, but it’s too bad he’s getting his shot this way. The gov is desparately trying to score public points any way he can and it’s clear he’s using race as leverage in that attempt, as reinforced by Bobby Rush’s thinly veiled threat that anyone speaking against Burris’ appointment is a racist. I agree with him that we need more diversity in the Senate, but why can’t we accomplish it without playing the race card?
I say Burris will be seated only because he will agree with the Senate leadership to not run for re-election at the end of this partial term.

I have no idea if he’ll be seated or not but I tend to think he will. I think that pesky Constitution may thwart good old Harry.
One way or the other this is great fun. Nice play of the race card by Bobby Rush by the way.

Sure he will be seated. Dems don’t have a legal foot to stand on. Remember, Burris is a Democrat and he paid $14,000 for that seat. And why are they throwing Blago under the bus anyway. This comedy show has been Dem politics for years. Payoffs, playing the race card, dirty under the table deals…. this is not new to Illinois. The people voted for him, leave him there. This has been the best comedy show I’ve ever seen. The comedy just keeps rolling out. Soon he may start talking about the great Messiah. That’s when it will be interesting. Where there’s smoke there’s fire… Lots of it…. BWAHAHAHAHHAHA.

Bobby Rush’s comments just pours fuel on racism. But that’s what they are all about. That’s why i have no respect for any of them…and justifiably so. Play the card and loose any respect from me.

The arrogance of Blagojevich is astounding. And shame on Bobby Rush. Obama says he’s standing by the Democratic leadership in the Senate that they will not seat anyone appointed by Blago. Is Rush going to call Obama a racist over this? And shame on Roland Burris for accepting the appointment. The whole thing stinks and I don’t think Burris will be seated.

Pat,
It is great that you and Mike Carrol think this all great fun. It is not fun for the taxpayers of Illinois however. They will now have to pay $20 million in higher interest on state debt because of the lower bond rating this democrat scandal has caused in our state government. Thats twenty million dollars that could have done a lot of good here in the Rockford area. The democrat party is destroying our state.

Railrider: There is no such thing as the “democrat party.” It’s called the “Democratic Party.” Only Publicans call it the “democrat party.”

Okay, I will stick with dose dems are destroying the state.

Has anybody noticed that Blago hasn’t been convicted yet? Or that he hasn’t even been tried yet? Regardless of what you guys think about him, he’s still “innocent until proven guilty”. And it’s the Governor’s job to nominate Senate appointees, not Reid’s or Durbin’s, and certainly not some of the rightwingers commenting above. That’s what makes this thing so messy.
Personally, I wish Blago would resign and let the Lt. Gov. make the nomination.
Railrider,
Was George Ryan one of “dose dems”? I’m sure he did wonders for Illinois’ bond rating. FYI, I lived in overwhelmingly Republican Dupage Co. for 25 years. There’s was plenty of funny stuff going on there too. Neither party is faultless.

Burris will be seated, though maybe not when the new Senate class gets sworn in next week. I don’t think the courts will uphold Jesse White’s refusal to sign the appointment paper or the Senate Democratic Caucus’s attempt to keep a properly appointed senator from taking office. We may not like that Blagojevich picked the state’s next senator, but as far as we know, he chose Burris legitimately.

Because of George Ryan, the voters threw the republicans out of control of both the executive and legislative branch. We can expect that to happen to democrats now that they have had a decade of unbridled control of every office in the state government, and made a shambles of it. Now, the Madigans think they are going to have ‘one family’ control of state government. Not happening. Time to return Republicans to the executive branch, and increase their numbers in the general assembly. That will bring the necessary checks and balances back that effectively worked for decades.

I don\’t know why he shouldn\’t be seated because he is crooked enough is what I am hearing!
