Whatever happened to J.D. Salinger?

Like so many of my generation, I was profoundly changed in the late ’50s and early ’60s by my exposure to the literature of J.D. Salinger, especially his novel “The Catcher in the Rye.”

Salinger, who turns 90 today and remains a devout recluse, hasn’t published anything in nearly 44 years. But some of us, as we see in THIS PIECE in The New York Times, still have cause to hope for more.
