Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Is “legacy” really the word for THIS?

    Not quite Craig.
Private sector employment grew under Reagan in 7 out of his 8 years in office (you may recall that he inherited quite a recession) and in 4 out of 7 years under W ( also recall that he inherited a recession, the bursting of the tech bubble and the aftermath of 9/11). 2008 numbers are not yet in.
You might also want to recall that the economy took off when Clinton was in office only after the Republicans got control of Congress.
    Facts are annoying, aren’t they.

    Not quite Mike,

How did private sector jobs grow during the Reagan years when unemployment hit the highest levels since the Depression? When Reagan was president, unemployment in Rockford hit 22%. Did you forget that? I didn’t. Also the Reagan years saw the greatest number of business failures and bankruptcies since the Depression. The only job sector that really grew was defense contractors. The steel industries and auto industries were on life support while Reagan let the country get flooded with foreign goods. Did you forget that too? I didn’t. Facts are really annoying aren’t they, Mike?

Craig-Your comments (# 4 above) were wrong whether you like it or not. Go the the Bureau of Labor Statistics site that I provided the link for and check it out. And yes, I lived and worked in Rockford when the unemployment figures hit 22%. Blame Jimmy Carter because Reagan inherited his mess.
