Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Former Chicago Public Schools CEO Arne Duncan apparently has made a FAVORABLE IMPRESSION in his new job as the Obama administration’s secretary of education.

President Obama’s DIRECTIVES regarding Gitmo and its detainees are a welcome departure from the scandalous practices of the past eight years.

(Hat-tip to Talking Points Memo)

The GOP may have changed this by the time you visit the site, but this is the way it looked earlier today.

Worthless ranking of “influential liberals”

Forbes magazine, which apparently knows little or nothing about liberalism or political influence, is out with a LIST of the “25 Most Influential Liberals in the U.S. Media.”

(Note: The Forbes Web site unveils the list by way of an awkward, cumbersome slide show.)

I won’t dispute Forbes’ inclusion of New York Times columnist Paul Krugman (above) on the list, but I wouldn’t rank him No. 1.

Certain others on the list (Maureen Dowd and Fred Hiatt, to name two) don’t belong at all.

Limbaugh wallows in his irrelevance

Lest anyone think that Rush Limbaugh is a great boon to Republican conservatism, consider this:

There have been five presidential elections during Limbaugh’s reign as the king of talk radio (his show went national only a few months before the 1988 election and therefore wasn’t much of a factor that year), and the Democratic candidates carried the popular vote in four of them. So much for El Rushbo’s value to the GOP.

Limbaugh’s irrelevance to mainstream American politics was amply DEMONSTRATED the other night when he was interviewed by Sean Hannity, another prominent wingnut.

UPDATE: Speaking of Limbaugh, he and his ideological kinsmen at Fox News get a hilarious going-over from Jon Stewart right HERE.

UPDATE II: Blago’s PRESSER this afternoon was supremely wacky.

Last week, I told you HERE about Republican fears that John McCain will help push much of President Obama’s agenda.

Here’s MORE on the matter.

The party that got us into this economic mess is afraid the other party will get credit for fixing it

THESE GUYS seem oddly oblivious to both the election results and the suffering among the American people.

But then, why should we be surprised?

UPDATE: No wonder the Democrats hold their BIGGEST LEAD in 20 years in party identification among Americans.
