Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Daschle should withdraw

OK, both President Obama and most Senate Democrats have declared their UNSWERVING SUPPORT of Tom Daschle’s nomination to the top job at Health and Human Services, despite his tax problems.

So, now the stage is set for Daschle to bow out with a modicum of grace. He’s put the administration in a no-win situation, even if he does get confirmed. His tax errors diminish the image the administration wants to advance.

Moreover, the controversy detracts attention that should be entirely focused on the economic crisis.

Don’t you just love “political theater”?

Rep. Eric Cantor, Republican House minority whip, shares a few FASCINATING TIDBITS about the political posturing over the stimulus bill.

Mind you, I’m not terribly shocked or offended by this stuff.  This is the way politics works, and only the naive expect otherwise.

This NEWS RELEASE is poorly written and a little confusing, but it boils down to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee running radio ads in Don Manzullo’s district and those of 27 other House Republicans for their opposition to President Obama’s stimulus bill.

A new poll SHOWS that most rank-and-file Republicans want their party to more strongly emulate Sarah Palin.

Oh, yeah. That’s just what they need.

Is Obama going too far in trying to compromise with Republicans on stimulus bill?
