Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Isn’t bearing false witness a sin?

Certain people, all of whom claim to be religious, had better shape up if they want to get to heaven.

HERE’s what they’ve been up to lately, none of which seems to jibe with Commandment VIII (above).

You do have a point. While religious persecution may be receiving unwarranted attention in some matters, it does exist. Just because some of these accounts of religious persecution may be fictitious or exaggerated does not mean religious persecution does not exist in the U.S. We need to make sure that we are taking everything into consideration.

This is just a classic example of people asking for special privileges or consideration and then claiming persecution when they don’t get it. The United States is a secular country. It is not Christian. There is no mention of Christianity in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution and no mention of God in the Constitution. Yet there are some who claim we are a Christian nation and the government should make special provisions to accomodate that belief. I’ve always felt that one’s religious beliefs are very personal and private. Worship however you want. That is your right in this country and I will defend it. But don’t expect me or the government to support your religion.

There may be religious persecution in the United States, but we Christians aren’t the ones being persecuted.

These Republicans such as DeMint don’t live anywhere near people they are bearing false witness against, so I guess they’re innocent on a technicality.

Mr. Baseball: Who do you think they were talking about, when they said GOD in the Declaration of Independence or Creator? They were Christians.

DingDong: Most of the Founding Fathers were Deists. Get an education, why don’t you? And Mr. B is right about the Constitution. It contains no mention of God. My experience is that most Christians know very little about either the Constitution or the Bible.

Their mention of a Creator could have been referring to the FSM. Here’s a link for you…

Pat is right on in comment #6.
