Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Whatever became of the GOP’s “nuclear option”?

Just a few years ago, Republicans were THREATENING to ban Senate filibusters forevermore.

Now, they’re demanding that Democrats muster a supermajority of 60 votes to get almost any legislation through the Senate.

Can you say “hypocrites,” boys and girls?

RNC Chair Michael Steele is a piece of work (but work should not be confused with a job)

For the second time in as many months, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele has declared that government jobs aren’t real jobs.

Last month, Steele said: “The government doesn’t create jobs. Let’s get this notion out of our heads that the government creates  jobs. Not in the history of mankind has the government ever created a job. Small business owners do, small enterprises do, not the government.”

Wow. That’s stupid on two counts.

First, he’s saying that firefighters and cops and FBI agents and public-school teachers and the millions of other folks who draw government paychecks don’t have real jobs.

Then, he says only small businesses create jobs. That leaves out big businesses.  That means the folks who work at Wal-Mart or General Electric or Caterpillar don’t have real jobs.

And this month, just the other day, Steele had this exchange with George Stephanopoulos on the subject of the stimulus bill:

STEELE: “You’ve got to look at what’s going to create sustainable jobs. What this administration is talking about is making work. It is creating work.”

STEPHANOPOULOS: “But that’s a job.”

STEELE: “No, it’s not a job. A job is something that — that a business owner creates.”

Is this guy witless or what?

There’s more, including a video clip, HERE.

Let us now kill Darwin

It says HERE that it’s a mistake to equate evolution with Charles Darwin, whose 200th birthday will be observed on Thursday.

Three weeks of fruitless “bipartisanship” is more than enough! Now, crush ‘em!

The Republicans act as if they won the election.

Gene Robinson’s got just the RIGHT IDEA on how to deal with them.

Rock and roll!
