In 2007, more than a year before the end of George W. Bush’s presidency and before the onset of the recent crash, the typical American family was financially WORSE OFF than when Dubya took office.
But, hey, we’re supposed to believe that Republicans know more about economics than Democrats do. Sure they do. And it don’t rain in Indianapolis in the summertime.

The folks who run Newsweek (the first issue of which, in 1933, is pictured above) are going to CHANGE the mag into something more like The Atlantic or The New Yorker.

There’s SPECULATION today that Republican Sen. Judd Gregg withdrew as a nominee to the Obama Cabinet because of connections to the notorious Jack Abramoff (above), who’s currently doing prison time.
If it’s true, it doesn’t reflect well on the Obama team’s vetting process. But neither does it do the GOP any good.
We’ll see.

In the current issue of The Atlantic, economic and social theorist Richard Florida has a MUST-READ PIECE about the potential aftermath of the current economic crisis.
It’s a sobering assessment of where we might be headed, and it likely will dispel many of your notions of where we’ve been and how we got to where we are.
I can’t recommend it too strongly.
