Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.” |

For some reason, i believe Jindal would really change America and get rid of billions of pork and earmarks, because he already has. Talk and promises are cheap but real proven success is totally credible. How can anyone talk bad about him reducing government’s role and wasteful spending? “Judge a person by their actions, not their words” We are learning that real quick these days.

Too bad you and your fellow wingnuts didn’t practice what you preach years ago before you voted to hand the reins over to Dubya and allow him to put us in the mess we’re in now.

Orlando-you have a very serious case of Bush Derangement Syndrome. I suggest rest and medication.

Have we seen a birth certificate on this guy? Everyone knows you can fake those things. What is he Iranian or something? Hopefully not a god awful terrorist or something. Did his parents ever pal around with that type.
5. Pat Cunningham | February 25th, 2009 at 7:47 pm
I hear he pals around with a right-wing counterpart of Bill Ayers. You know, somebody like G. Gordon Liddy.

Orlando: I agree Bush put us in the Iraq mess. This is a global economic downturn. We can debate all night long, who is at fault for the housing bubble which is a big part of the problem. There is plenty of blame for both sides, we can all go toe to toe with Youtube videos. The other problem is that this an overall debt issue. Which is something that no one wants to face. We want the party to go on forever and right now the federal government hopes to do that with the stimulus plan which is more debt to fix the problem of debt.
Banner: What he released is not the original birth certificate. If it was, where is the physical information of the infant?
Pat: G. Gordon Liddy went to jail and did his time.

DingDong: Liddy got his sentence commuted by Jimmy Carter. Bill Ayers has never been convicted of a crime. He’s a respected educator now, and Liddy is a crackpot radio blabber. It might interest you to know that Liddy once encouraged right-wing extremists to shoot federal agents in the head. Nice guy.

Mike Carroll: I have to tell you that I admire your stoicism in the face of Bobby Jindal’s swan dive into political ignominy. I know he was your guy for the GOP nomination in 2012, and you haven’t offered any lame excuses for his performance last night, which has become the biggest political joke since Sarah Palin last uttered something that made America glad she’s not a heartbeat away from the presidency. Keep a stiff upper lip, old chap.

Not ready for prime time. Barack delivered last night BJ didn’t. BJ seems like a smart BJ but just had a bad night.
Prime time is like Tiger coming back today after 8 months and goes birdie, eagle on the firdt toe holes. BJ goes dead duck.

Dong says, “Banner: What he released is not the original birth certificate. If it was, where is the physical information of the infant?”
Yes it was a certified birth cerificate, authenicated by the State of Hawaii, which has jurisdiction. And can YOU prove it wasn’t? If not, shut up about it. Also, what’s this “…where is the physical information of the infant” crap? What information? Do you think the newborns can sign the things? Or are you one of those idiots talking about the footprints? Those are only on the ceremonial copy the hospital gives the new parents.

Patrick- Your concern for the state of my political psyche is indeed touching. I always knew you were a sensitive soul.
I have not actually seen the Bobby Jindal performance that you reference. After the 1 hour plus lecture from the professor-in-chief I had had enough political theater for the evening and I directed my attention elsewhere. From what I understand, his performance was strong on substance but fell short in style as opposed to the stylish but substance free professor. I’ll take substance, thank you.
I am reminded of a similar occurrence (and correct me if I am wrong on details) but there was a young inexperienced Southern Governor that the Democratic Party thought was an up and comer. He was given a prime time speaking assignment at the ( 84, 88?) convention. I watched his speech and felt sorry for him as he droned on well over his allotted time totally losing his audience and seemingly oblivious to that fact. I remember the late Peter Jennings commenting that his performance could very well be the death knell of his ambitions for the national political stage.
Whatever did become of that speaker, one William Jefferson Clinton?
12. Pat Cunningham | February 26th, 2009 at 9:13 am
Mike Carroll: Two things: 1) Not all of the criticism of Jindal’s speech centered on style. David Brooks, for one, focused entirely on substance. 2) Bill Clinton’s overlong speech in ‘88 never became the huge national joke that Jindal’s bomb has become. Clinton’s speech was faulted only for its length, not for delivery or substance. Jindal’s style was horrible, and his substance was plagued with nonsense about Katrina and the silly Republican mantra that tax cuts are the answer to every problem and that government should take no active role in dealing with a grave economic crisis. The message, as Brooks said, was ‘”insane.”
13. Pat Cunningham | February 26th, 2009 at 9:55 am
Mike: Upon further reflection, I think history shows that the fuss over Clinton’s speech helped catapault him into the national spotlight, where his undeniable personal charms set him on a path to the White House. (Remember, this was long before the womanizing stuff came to the fore.) A week after the speech, Clinton appeared on Johnny Carson’s show and was a big hit. Absent that speech, perhaps Clinton never would have gained traction. I don’t think Jindal is likely to have a similar experience. Again, it wasn’t the length of Jindal’s speech that created his problem. It was HIM — what he said and how he said it.

Pat: You keep taking Liddy’s comment out of context. I actually heard this on the radio myself. I happened to be in DC the day that show was airing. At that time, the federal agents were having the habit of raiding the wrong home with guns drawn. Ruby Ridge was only 2 years before that.
Craing: Try to follow. This from the HI gov. website concerning homesteads in HI.
“In order to process your application, DHHL utilizes information that is found only on the original Certificate of Live Birth, which is either black or green. This is a more complete record of your birth than the Certification of Live Birth (a computer-generated printout). Submitting the original Certificate of Live Birth will save you time and money since the computer-generated Certification requires additional verification by DHHL.”
http://hawaii.gov/dhhl/applicants/appforms/dhhl/applicants/applyhhl/#types
The key words are Certification and Certificate. They do not accept Certification. There should be a certificate. Now what is on the internet, a certification.

Also, why can’t we see his college records.

Well, Pat, you are right about Ayers. He was never convicted. I’m not sure that he was ever even caught. I would not say that “He’s a respected educator now”. Didn’t he and Bernadine Dohrn become fugitives together, constantly changing identities, jobs and locations in avoidance of taking accountability for their actions and terrorist acts?
There is nothing respectable about that, or someone who would do such things, in my book. Whether you’re Rebublican, Democrat or Liberal, this guy and his dangerous extremist ideologies are poison in the veins of our educational system.
