 Ya gotta hand it to that Lindsey Graham feller — he’s one of them straight-talkin’ Publicans, and we sure could use a lot more of them — ’specially now that we got that Mooslim guy in the White House.
 I seen ol’ Lindsey on the teevee this mornin’, and he was splainin’ how them earmarks is bad, ‘cept when they’re good.

Senate filibusters, a subject of considerable debate HERE a few weeks ago, is on my mind again in light of THIS COLUMN in the Los Angeles Times by former U.S. diplomat George Kenney.
 I’m with Kenney on this subject: Let’s kill the filibuster forever.

 Actually, the headline above is misleading. I don’t really hate to side with the political right regarding the current legal battle over gay marriage in California. In truth, I always welcome any good opportunity to part company with my friends on the left — perhaps because it makes me look so downright reasonable.
 Make no mistake.  I’m all in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage, but I’m also obliged by logic and principle to agree with the points made by Steve Chapman in THIS COLUMN on the matter.

 A survey analysis released last week by the Pew Research Center shows that American women are more likely than men to believe in God, pray and involve themselves in religious activities.
 THIS STORY on the poll touches upon some of the likely reasons for the gender disparity, but it doesn’t even mention one question that occurs to me:
 Given the way some religions and denominations historically have treated them, why aren’t women less likely than men to be religious?
