One BIG difference:
“When negotiations stalled, PATCO threatened to strike, despite federal law forbidding it. When the union carried out its threat, Reagan gave its members 48 hours to get back to work, warning that those who stayed out longer would be fired. ”
The union violated it’s contract, and suffered the consequences. GM had no such “contract” with the government.
And with the “Pay for Performance Act” that is soon to be debated, Turbo-Tax Timmy Geitner will have the total authority to set salaries and control business policy for any business that gets Federal Funds.
