Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.”

Will Fox News demand a courtmartial?

This looks like an American soldier exchanging a terrorist fist-bump with a suspected foreign-born Muslim who’s middle name is Hussein, while similarly sinister characters, all of them dressed in military garb, approvingly witness the gesture.

Alert Sean Hannity! A dishonorable discharge, at the least, would seem to be in order for the fist-bumping soldier.

Folks in ad opposing gay marriage are actors

When I posted THIS AD earlier today, I thought the people expressing opinions were from the walks of life they claimed to be.

I hadn’t noticed the fine-print disclaimer that said:

”The stories these actors are telling are based on real incidents.”

Here’s a video showing auditions for some of the roles in the ad:

The famed movie critic DISSES Billo – big time!  (Warning: There’s a mildly off-color sexual reference at the end of this piece.)

Civil war in conservative blogosphere

Whether in matters of politics, religion, sexuality, lifestyle or whatever, orthodoxy is of utmost importance to most conservatives.

Woe to he or she who dares express even a hint of apostasy.

This principle is evidenced in a current row among right-wing bloggers over the audacity of a certain somebody who has dared to suggest that Fox News supernut Glenn Beck (above) is a little overwrought.

It’s not easy to keep score in all of this, but HERE’s an overview of the battlefront.

Why are so many gun owners so afraid?

I’ve never felt a need to own guns, but neither do I favor unreasonable restrictions on those who do.

The thing I can’t understand is why so many gun owners seem so afraid of everything that goes bump in the night and so gullible as to believe that everybody’s trying to disarm them.

This country is awash in firearms, yet we’ve heard fearful  rhetoric for decades now about how the Second Amendment might soon be repealed and jackbooted government thugs might soon come to seize our guns.

The most obvious case in point is the paranoia over the Obama administration, which has never indicated any intention to disarm ordinary Americans.

There’s more about this matter HERE.

Obama proposes hike in defense spending, but the media call it a spending cut

The Obama administration wants to increase Pentagon spending from last year’s $513 billion to $534 billion.

To hear your mainstream media TELL IT, those figures represent a reduction in defense spending.

What was that about the media’s “liberal bias”?

Conservative Republican caller blasts Limbaugh

I don’t often listen to Rush Limbaugh, but there are times when I regret having missed his show.

One such occasion was yesterday, when a conservative Republican excoriated El Rushbo for his support of torture.

 HERE’s the transcript.

UPDATE: There’s an audio clip of the incident over HERE.

Obama’s middle name and Muslim ancestry make him a nightmare for Islamic extremists

Joe Conason NOTES that President Obama is uniquely suited by name and ancestry to accomplish the American mission of neutralizing the Islamic base of al-Qaeda extremists.

This is an ironic rebuttal to those who have mocked those same characteristics in Obama, especially his middle name of Hussein.
