Applesauce
Pat Cunningham offers an unabashedly liberal perspective on national politics. A note of caution: The language gets a litttle salty on some of the sites to which this blog links. So, don’t say you weren’t warned. By the way, this blog’s name is inspired by the Will Rogers quote, “All politics is applesauce.” |

In an effort to scare everybody, this Republican production even includes a photo of President Obama meeting with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. (But, hey, they’re brown people, right? Reason enough to fear them.)

Every once in a while, an Applesauce commenter will cite some bit of pseudo-insightful nonsense from Dick Morris, the Fox News commentator who used to be an adviser to Bill Clinton.
I’ve ordinarily ignored the mentions of Morris or links to his lame punditry. I guess they’ve come along at times when I’ve been too lazy to build a case against the man.
Well, now I don’t have to bother. There’s a pretty good roundup of stuff about Morris right HERE.

Despite the fuss kicked up by self-appointed guardians of Catholic orthodoxy (see HERE), most American members of the denomination support Notre Dame’s invitation to President Obama to deliver the school’s commencement address.
That’s the word from a NEW POLL by the Pew Research Center.

Bob Presman, a former radio personality who occasionally submits comments here at Applesauce under a pseudonym, is pursuing an avocation as a stand-up comedian.
Presman will make his public debut next Thursday night at Swilligan’s Pub, a bar at Church and Mulberry streets in downtown Rockford.
For some reason, Presman has declined my offer to do a lounge-singer shtick as his warmup act.

 Just kidding, of course.
No matter whom President Obama chooses to replace David Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court, the nominee is certain to be better qualified than Harriet Miers.
George W. Bush gave the high-court nod to the lightweight Miers in 2005, but she was quickly forced to withdraw when even conservatives scoffed at her meager credentials.
Here’s how filling the Souter vacancy will play out: Obama will name a moderate-liberal (most likely a woman); Republicans, grandstanding for the benefit of their right-wing party base, will kick up a big fuss, but to no avail; the Senate will confirm the nomination, and that will be the end of that. The court will not have been moved much to either the left or the right.
There’s more speculation on the matter HERE.
UPDATE: Here’s a clip of Obama talking last year about the kind of Supreme Court justices he would prefer:
