Andrew Sullivan punches a HUGE HOLE in the widespread theory among conservatives that Muslims are on a path toward domination of Western Europe.
Sullivan argues that the right-wingers who are so worried about Europe’s future apparently have little faith that Western culture and values are strong enough and sufficiently attractive to withstand the current demographic trends.
POSTSCRIPT: Incidentally, this is an ideal context for one of my favorite bits of American demographics:
Seventy-five percent of Arab-Americans are Christians.
 How’s that for counterintuitive?

Well, OK, maybe the words “hate America” in the headline above overstate the case, but still…
Remember last year, during the presidential campaign, when right-wingers frequently posed loaded questions as to whether Barack Obama really loved America?
Well, it turns out that some of these same people apparently aren’t so keen on America themselves — at least not if Obama is the president.
Research 2000 has a new poll SHOWING that Southerners and Republicans are more likely than the rest of us to think that their home states would be better off it they were independent of the United States.
As I’ve always said, sometimes the people who most loudly question the patriotism of others are not so patriotic themselves. Nor am I surprised that Southerners and Republicans are the most likely members of that category.
